I take guesses before I am actually sure. I look for attitude, stance, leg thickness. And as above, I am sometimes wrong! It will vary with the chick and the line as to how early the boys get comb development.

Thank you! To the sex question; sometimes you can almost tell at hatch the sex if it is a cockerel. They will bust out of the shell and immediately begin acting like a boy. Other times it takes waiting for comb development. I was sure this new hatchling was a pullet. She has turned out to be a...

I am so sorry they are selling whatever that is as isbar/silverudd's blue. Another of the characteristic are dark brown to black eyes. Marans have the amber color eyes. Green eggs, and lots of them, are another consistent characteristic they need to have. They should also be medium sized, clean...

I ship from the airport in the evening. I ship eggs most of the year. I dont ship chicks from June until Sept unless the weather is right. I really love the birds and HATE whe one dies, esp. if it is my fault! When it gets this hot, fertility usually takes a hit too. You have to think about...

I like the metallic sheen. In the early 1st imports, there was a metallic sheen to some of the feathers. I dont see that so much now.

    I vote blue also.

There are some poultry genetics sites that are helpful. I am test mating my SB rooster with isabelle leghorns. If the off spring lay blueish eggs he will be verified to carry the blue egg gene. Leghorns (I am told) carry a brown egg suppressor, so I can't get green eggs with that cross. I wonder...

That's a tough one. I think it may be a pullet. I looked at the pictures I posted above to try to figure it out. I don't see any pointy saddle feathers or sickle feathers here. She may be so red because she is getting ready to lay. The cape looks like a cockerel though pullets can also have that...

Here are some colors I have had and I posted a bunch of splash chicks so you can see. I am pretty sure yours is a light blue. The blues can have dark spots in them. I see some whiskers in #7 since @livhatcher mentioned it, (good catch). That may be OE also. I have lots of SB pictures in the...

I want to say from the start that I am by no means the expert, but will attempt to make some guesses. It looks like your OE's were made with CCL and Marans. CCL contribute the crest and the barring. The marans contribute the feathered legs, though all the offspring don't have to have feathered...

The splash and the blue look great! I especially love the splash. The little guy with the mottling, not so much, for breeding anyway. He would be a cull in my breeding program. Only IMO.

Those are probably 3 months in that picture. I have every age running around here. I swear I am stopping hatching (for at least a month) after this next big bunch, due to hatch this week.

By the way they are standing I would GUESS the splash is male and the black is female. That is only a guess though.

If it is, I dont know about it. That would just be too simple! The first picture is of 25 Silverudd's Blue (Isbar) I hatched last Sunday for the Easter Hatch-a-long. The next picture are a few of my grow outs hanging out.

Welcome to the wonderful and sometimes maddening world of Silverudd's Blue (Isbar)! You may be able to get an idea of the sex of your babies by the first month, usually it is a bit longer though. I have some hatched 6 days ago and can make guesses based on stance, but they are only guesses. I...
