Any first timer want to start with me? Eggs go in 4/1. ;)

I'm sorry, ams3651. :-( One of mine had a poorly healed umbilicus and a little bit of greenish goop; it also need alot of help to hatch. My guess is that the green stuff is unabsorbed yoke gone bad. Glad you've got some healthy peeps, though! Here's hoping they're all pullets!! :-)

Finally got some pics of my hatchlings: 2 on the left are easter-eggers, black one is silkie hen x giant black sex-link/wyandotte rooster, one on the right is black sex link/wyandotte mix. A close-up of the silkie mix. I'm very curious to see how he/she turns out! The brown...

Any first timer want to start with me? Eggs go in 4/1. ;)

Well, easter egger #2 FINALLY made it out this morning. He's still a little woozy, and his toes seem curled up, but he's only been out of the egg for 2 hours so I'll give him some time. To sum up: after 22.5 days of incubation, I have 2 easter eggers, 2 barnyard mixes and 3 eggs still in the...

Yes! Easter egger #1 is out, and stumbling around the incubator. I'll put him with the other two when he's a little more dried off. Hopefully his brother will finish hatching tonight.

Any first timer want to start with me? Eggs go in 4/1. ;)

I helped out most of the ones that my broody kicked out of her nest last year, before I knew any better. All of them hatched, and all of them were healthy chicks and are now healthy adults, even the ones that needed the most help. If these guys were continuing to zip okay, I'd leave them alone...

Any first timer want to start with me? Eggs go in 4/1. ;)

Argh! What a day... after all the shenanigans last night, the two that pipped yesterday have made virtually no progress in ~20 hours. I've been helping them out veeeeeeery carefully, and one should be out pretty soon. His/her membrane seems really dried out, but it seems eager to get out of...

Any first timer want to start with me? Eggs go in 4/1. ;)

Phew! He/she seems fine! Still a little fussy, but no longer racing around the brooder cheeping its head off in distress. That's a big relief. Other 2 pips are still alive and kicking... not sure about the other three eggs though. Looks like I'll be coming home from work early today- I know I...

Any first timer want to start with me? Eggs go in 4/1. ;)

Well, chick #2 hatched and it looks like I've got a couple more pips, but they haven't done anything exciting overnight. Unfortunately, the 2nd chick seems to be in some kind of distress and has a less-than-fully-healed umbilicus. Had to move both to the brooder in the garage, since the cheeping...

Any first timer want to start with me? Eggs go in 4/1. ;)

One chick is out! It started pipping early this morning, and now it is wandering forlornly around the incubator, waiting for the others to hatch. There's another one pipping for sure, and possibly a third. As for the others, either they're slow or they've chosen to peck their little escape...

Any first timer want to start with me? Eggs go in 4/1. ;)

Yeah, I think I'll go ahead & set up my humidifier next to the incubator. I'm not wild about getting my clothes all soggy (bator is in the closet), but it should just be for a couple of days.

Day 20, and nothing yet. Temp looks fine, but I'm having trouble keeping the humidity high enough. Perhaps issues with the shelf lining stuff that I put in there? All the wells are full, plus 2 extra dishes of water. Must...NOT... poke...incubator...

Sneaked another peek at the eggs, and everyone seems to be doing well! I could see them wiggling, which was awesome. Going to take out the egg turner tomorrow (day 18) & raise the humidity for the home stretch! I'd better hurry up and get the brooder dusted off & ready for action.

Finally candled (day 7 for me): 3 out of 4 EE eggs are fertile 2 out of 2 silkie x Dinosaur Chicken eggs are fertile 2 out of 4 Dinosaur Chicken x rest-of-the-flock are fertile Overall, 70%. Things are looking good! Dinosaur Chicken is my only rooster so far; he is a silver-laced...

Any first timer want to start with me? Eggs go in 4/1. ;)

I broke one of mine last year- dropped it on the way back to the nest, just after discovering it was fertile. Since I have no broody hen this year, I figured I'd test my incubating skills on a few of the free eggs from my flock BEFORE my very-much-not-free araucana eggs arrive. I will kick...

Any first timer want to start with me? Eggs go in 4/1. ;)

I'm forcing myself to wait until day 7 or 8 to candle, but the waiting is driving me NUTS. Every evening, my husband peeks into the incubator and complains that there aren't chickens in it yet. Tell me about it... I'm extremely curious to see if the silkie eggs are fertile- my rooster is...

Any first timer want to start with me? Eggs go in 4/1. ;)

I just put some eggs in yesterday too, and it's my first time hatching with an incubator (LG w/ turner and fan). It will be interesting to see how well they hatch; last year, my broody hen hatched 100% of the (fertile) eggs we gave her, but she was totally uninterested in taking care of the...
