Poco, your polish baby is cute!
My incubator is homemade. I don't really think it's the bator though. I think it's me! I am going to be recalibrating all my thermometers and the hydrgrometer to make sure everything is working right.
I will look into the reptile stores though.. Thanks for the...
Well... final outcome of this hatch:
40 chicken eggs went in the bator.
Day 10- 11 clears, left 29 in the bator
Day 14- 1 went stinky, 28 left in bator
Day 18- 7 quitters, left 21 in the bator
Day 20- 3 live hatch, 1 pip then died in the shell
Day 21- 2 live hatch
Day 22- 1 live hatch with...
I had 1 more hatch just a few minutes ago. And another that died after pipping. So out of 21 that looked good on day 18... so far I have 6 hatched, 2 dead after pipping, and the rest are just sitting there. No pips, no peeps, no wiggles.. and it's almost the end of day 22. I am hoping that...
Well, the one that pipped yesterday was dead by the time I got home from work. I think it ended up drowning after it's sibs knocked it over. No more pips yet in any of the other eggs. Hoping some more will get moving tonight and that they aren't all dead.
To keep my spirits up, here are more...
I have a total of 5 babies out of the egg so far, 1 still pipped, and the rest nothing yet. The pipped one was the second one to pip yesterday. If it hasn't hatched by the time I get home, I'm probably going to see it it needs a bit of help. I saw it's little beak last night as it looked like...

Thanks. Baby #3 looks just like them. The Daddy is a silkie mix, I think. He has black skin, black beak, 5 toes, but not fluffy feathers.
They have his skin, beak, and toes. The last one would have GREAT toe spacing if it was a full silkie LOL.
Momma could be Australorp, light...
Yay, dang it, yay, dang it, yay........ LOL
Looks like little chickie isn't going to wait for me to get home. DH just called to tell me that in 15 minutes, he's halfway zipped already!
Oh well... THat should give him time to rest and maybe he will encourage more of his brothers and sisters...
My Daughter just called to tell me we have a pip!!! Maybe I wasn't crazy this morning when I thought I heard peeping!
Wooohooooooooo.!!!!!!!!!! Now just wait baby chickie, until I get home from work at 5.
Pick-a-Lily, That is what happened to me last (first) time. I ended up having to leave the lid halfway off for about 10 minutes to get the humidity back down. I hope yours levels out soon. That is pretty much why I am satisfied with 57% right now.
I could have sworn I heard peeping last...
I had a stinky egg this time. I smelled it when I opened to turn the eggs. They all looked the same, so I jsut followed my nose. I picked each one up and sniffed... It wasn't very hard to find. It was a lot harder explaining to my hubby what I was doing sniffing all the eggs.
Most people I've talked to say to hatch at 60-65% humidity. I can't seem to get mine there. I get it to 56-57% or it shoots up to 75+%. The humidity shoots up as they hatch anyway, so I just settle for the 56%. It worked ok the last hatch, anyway.
The dreams were weird because I haven't really worried too much this whole time. The water wiggler temp has been between 100.4-100.6 the whole time. Rock solid, steady temps. The humidity has been fine. Yet now that we're in the last few days, I've been thinking about them nonstop.
And...
Did my last candle last night when I set everything up for the lockdown. I had 5 quitters and 2 questionable. I left the 2 ? ones in the bator. One of the quitters was kind of sad to look at... I could see its little foot, clear as day. But no movement, and no viens, and looked like a...
I still have 28 going strong I think. I skipped the 14th day candle and am just going to candle on the 18th day when I stop turning. At least there is no more funky smells.
Just threw one egg away. I opened the bator to a funky smell. Found the culprit egg, and send DH out to dispose of it. I didn't want to see if I was wrong. He said there was some development, but it was tiny and no movement.
So, down to 28 eggs left.
