She is actually going to send me Live chicks...rather then eggs... I considered trying to hatch again... but then I would have to do the whole brooder... and messing up the flock ranking thing again. I like being able to add everyone at once and not have to disturb things too much. I have quite...
Thanks amy... I also threw a post on Craigslist.....
I'm torn whether to purchase 3 for $145 or 10 for $170 in hopes... in selling the surplus. I don't want to have a lot of extra chicks here... as my chicken math has been mounting up quite high!!!
I need some suggestions where to post this ....
I found a seller that will send me 10 "minnie's" Serama's
but I dont' need 10..... and that is the min. amount.
Where can I post an Ad.....
IF you would like to go in with me for Serama chicks in Massachusetts?
The for sale board? The...
Thanks everyone... Guess that it wasn't meant to be this time around... There is always the chance that i could give it another go... now that I figured out this incubation thing. I don't believe that the bigger chicks picked on her at all... in fact she stayed under the heat lamp - solo most of...
Woke up to find Minny ( our Serama - had died) I found her first before my daughter- thankfully- But I am so sad about this. I knew that they had a high chance of dying in the shell but I thought that once they hatched - they were good? She didn't seem sick...or overly weak. I just don't know...
Wanted to share a couple photos of our Hatched chicks..
These are two of the 9 BCM .... we put a couple in with the newly hatched Serama... You can really tell the size difference between them!
AWESOME!!!
I found a seller that is going to ship a pair to us next week.... we are super excited. My daughter already named them... "Luke and Leia"
:)
So... I put 3 Serama eggs in the bator and I have one Healthy chick that made it! I am so Happy!!! My daughter was thrilled that 9 of our BCM hatched and loves our one little Serama....
i will try to take some photos tomorrow and post them!
Michele
I put 12 eggs in... 3 didn't make it... and 7 are out running around the brooder doing great.... The last two are in the bator with good sized pips!
I hope to get everyone out by tomorrow because my Serama eggs were Supposed to go in lockdown today!
Michele
Edit... to add that the last two...
Three OUT!!!! I woke up several times last night to check on them... and no progress... then at about 8am ... things started to get moving... my daughter went to school and 15 min later the first one was born... followed by the other two! She is going to be SO bummed that she missed it! But...
I am SO sorry about your little guy... I can relate .. somewhat - as I have felt like a mass murderer for the last two months without one of my chicks making it out of the shell.... Hugs to you!
I am going to follow up the previous sad post with a happier one.... drum roll...
Thank you... day 20 no pip on my BCM eggs.......- I've only had one chick in a shell that had completely absorb it's yoke ( in Mach) ... the rest of the eggs (March - Current) had a substantial amount of yoke with out any internal pip.
I have a question- are the chicks supposed to absorb the yoke completely prior to making that external pip or is the yoke slowly absorbed while they are working on breaking out?
Michele
nope.. I'm in Massachusetts- Just north of Boston.
Checked the Bator this morning... and as expected- day 19 and no signs of pips. I candled them on day 18 prior to lockdown and they all were alive and kicking. Some of the eggs had some REALLY funky aircell placements. - After the 23rd... I...
WOW! That is impressive!! Did you do the dry hatch method? What was the humidity in there?
BTW... my 2 Eggs ( Araucana) were goners- day 23 showed one chick that was fully developed but had his head tucked tight in wing. - No internal pip. The other egg showed the head up toward air cell but...
okay.. without any more shaking I got nervous and *gasp* opened the bator and candled them. I needed to add more water and thought.. hey - I have a good excuse!
They were both moving around in there... shadow to the bottom of the air cell and the bottom pointy end of the egg completely filled...
Just checked on the 2 eggs again.. **staring intently** ... maybe I willed it to move earlier because now, it sat there as still as a rock! I will keep checking back on it tonight and see if I can identify any pip marks... here's hoping!!!
