That's interesting! :D
I believe that as long as the doe doesn't have an abscess on the udder, it is fine to drink the milk. I don't have much experience with this though, because we've only had wethers. :)
Great! I think CL is actually very fascinating. What I will tell you is my experience and some of what I've read online. Some people have different opinions on it. Basically, CL (Caseous Lymphadenitis) is a disease caused by Corynebacterium pseudoturberculosis. It causes goats to get pus...
Hey guys! :) I was having fun catching up on all the reading here! I just thought that I'd share that we had to euthanize Boog two weeks ago due to CL. We have been battling with this for many months now and made the decision that would ultimately benefit the goat and us. I know it is a...
They are adorable! :love Isn't it fun to play with them? I play with my Boers all the time. It's hilarious to see these ginormous goats bouncing around the yard after me.
Your little boys are too cute! :love Not sure on the worm count or other ways to get the pills down....sounds like you've tried everything short of just shoving it down their mouths. :/
Oh man, that stinks. :( At least your little boys are in good hands now. I'm happy that they seem to be warming up to you! :)
As waddles99 said, the winter coat will fall out in its own, but I'm sure they wouldn't mind being brushed. :) Brushing them and just spending time with them I general...
Don't take it personally. :) They may be ignoring you now, by eventually they will get curious and start to like you. I know it may seem like it isn't possible, but I promise you they will come around and then will never leave you alone. :)
ETA: Handsome boys! :love
Honestly, they will be super skittish at first, but the best treat is to just spend time with them. Sit with them in their pasture and just let them watch you, then start to pet them and before you know it, you'll never be able to get away from them. :) A yummy treat suggestion is uncooked bow...
Thanks! Sounds like Nigerians are a popular breed! :D
Thank you! My boys can be rough with each other, but they never really seem to hurt each other. I'm just not sure how they would take to a smaller goat like a Nigerian. They're about 100 pounds now, should be around 180-200 full grown...
Thank you! They sound like they would do pretty good in an agility class. :) At fair, the Nigerians and Pygmys always seem to just fly over the jumps.
Haha, I hadn't thought of that! That's the good thing about the Boers, you don't have to do any bending over! Do you think the...
A question for those of you with "mini breeds".....
I've been thinking about getting a "mini breed" goat or two to use for the agility class at the fair. I have my two Boers, and don't get me wrong they are great goats, but they can be a little bull-headed sometimes and they do pretty bad in...
Thank you for this information. :) I honestly know very little about dairy goats so this has been interesting to learn about.
Oh okay, I hadn't even thought about the registering part, lol. It seems that you sort of want what you get in meat goats in dairy goats. A massive, meaty, muscular...
Honestly, that's what I've always thought too, but I do like LaManchas despite them seeming skinny.
Wow! I've never seen dairy goats like that before. He's awesome! Do you breed Boer's or other stockier breeds into your does? Or do you feed them a special feed? Sorry for these questions...
I definitely agree! I think many of us pick a favorite breed off of what we want to do with our goats too, because then we would pick a breed that's suited for that activity. :)
