I removed the egg turner at day 18. 8 of my 10 fertile eggs hatched on the early side. However, two seemed destined to hatch right on day 21. However, one pipped and then stayed in the egg. The other never pipped.
If you remember back, I thought the floor of my incubator seemed much colder...
congrats to everyone!
the little guy i helped, who I named "shrinky dink" died last night. his curved foot had self-straightened. he had no fear--just love peepin' with his peeps. but he wasn't growing. i don't think he could eat or drink well enough with his curved beak.
so, to those...
The little guy I helped is doing very well. His curled toes have straightened. He is tiny--about half the size of the others has that sticky chick look. He has trouble drinking with his curled beak, and sometimes he looses his balance. But he is smart--he waits till everyone else is under...
Wow, the Tarot was right!
Above was an early post I made at the beginning of this thread (post #86)
Resuts?
I set 21 eggs.
I pulled 10 clear eggs out of the incubator before lockdown.
I have nine live chicks in the brooder now
I pulled 2 eggs out at the end that were dark like the others but...
Oh, I guess I'm just not feeling too well. But I'm at home, and that peeper who was stuck inside the egg... I couldn't just let it peep for days without doing anything to help it! So, I suppose if I had put the pipped egg and the unpipped eggs in the freezer I wouldn't have been stuck helping...
Hello to everyone! Wow, there have been trials and tribulations.
Re: power outages. Keep an eye on any high-tech businesses going out of business. Battery Back Ups litter those types of places (they also provide surge protection) and if they are old they might even give them to you for...
I watched a youtube video about picking off a zip line of just shell and not membrane. I did that. Chick seems to be sleeping, seems very worn out. If it wakes up and take a stretch, it could be out. Or, maybe it will slip away. The other babies seem very happy under the brinsea. I can't...
Poor little Polish chick is nearing on 24 hours pipped. I'm not going to help it. I'm not going to help it.
Brinsea arrived. How do I know if it is hot enough under there?
I've got about an inch of shavings covered with puppy pad and the brinsea on top.
According to tracking, the groundhog is 2 towns away with my "electric hen".
I've got 8 chicks now, one polish pip and 2 swedish flower hen eggs waiting. If and when the polish hatches they are all coming out and I'll let the swedish flower hens set a bit longer just for good measure.
I...
Now I've got 6 chicks one pip and 4 ain't saying nuthin. (maybe before bedtime we'll see pips for those who actually want to be born on hatch day?)
today was balmy but where was I? head cocked over the incubator all day and now i have a crick in me neck.
the answer to (will the chick be blocked if it is up against the side): the world will never know. destructo chick came through and saved the day. two chicks now.
I have a chick! I thought for sure it would be gold like his dad, but it is gray.
Sorry Mahonri, that is so sad.
Hey, you know what I realized? See the gold chick in my avatar? He is an olive egger (CM X Amer) who looks like a cream legbar. Anyways, he was an early hatcher and the...
