Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

pretty much the same, the large fowl hurt more if you get attacked. the bantams are harder to catch. when challenged they will defend themselves just the same as large fowl. i will say that when kept separately with a couple of hens they are very easy to handle most of the time. if they...

thanks to my dog (who is in deep pooh), i am looking for another pair/trio of brassy blues. i sold my brassy backs, i wasnt happy with them; so i cant make another group. do you know anyone who can ship and has an excellent pair of them (F3 or greater)?

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

bgmatt - not so long ago we talked about there not being a silver penciled OEGB. i have seen "penciling" in some silver duckwing hens that seems to fade/spread out as they get older- could those be selected for creation, and maybe bred to a laced pattern to help the lines? i know its off the...

i thought some more on this one last night - i have never seen it in oegbs but could it be silver quail?

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

it looks like your on both ends of the size spectrum LOL. my small OEGB's when they hatch are tiny - but very spirited.

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

if you use it for a breeder, pick the smallest of the offspring for your next line. big is bad but it can be worked with.

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

its common that hatchery OEGB's are larger, as a rule of thumb smaller is better. if the type is good it may be worth breeding for some diversity.

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

i find on my OEGB's that i need to run the protein higher, roosters up to 20% in the most active seasons. dont know if that helps, but a suggestion.

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

i think its just a touch of white showing through. his comb looks good so i think hes fine, if anything he may be just a touch dehydrated. if you are breeding for show, i would watch the chicks close for the same thing. if your just breeding for pets, or not breeding at all; i cant see any...

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

a picture would help. white earlobes are a defect in the breed, and something we work hard at trying to remove. however sometimes stress and molt will cause their earlobes to lighten, if this is the case he is fine for breeding.

the look like self blue. congrats on the silver duckwing hens.

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

those are silver duckwings, red ear lobs and white legs are the tell tail. leghorns have yellow legs, larger combs (typically) and white earlobes. they are usually bigger (in the bantam sizes) than OE too. i can say that my leghorn bantams have a longer body type too, with more prominent...

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

the worst part about being a member (in Ohio) is the paperwork. for us its a $50 a year fee, they do an avian flu test and check for typhoid and pullorum. the tests are free. it does come with some restrictions on buying new stock - basically you have to make sure the stock comes from other...

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

getting the salmon bred out of the chest i think will be the hardest part. but that's just a guess.

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

a little more definition in the markings, and a silver penciled hen should be penciled white and black all over with no red breast (i think). males are close to the silver duckwing pattern. edited to add: i didnt have any good pictures of my rocks. this is a link to an expired auction but it...
