What kind of "nasty in there"? Poop? I need to be mentally prepared in case I ever do this. Also, do they have a certain breeding season?
No, no poop in there. Well, maybe a little from the babies I guess..... it is just wet and slimy feeling and doesn't smell really good...
LOL I can just see it now....everyone will be stopping to check every opossum they see!!! Be forewarned, if you have to pull a baby out of the pouch....it is NASTY in there!!!!

I think the reason I'm scared is that people used to bring us grown coons and possums in cages to fatten up and me being the oldest I'm the one that had to feed them . These things were not happy about being caught and they tried everything they could to get to me through the wire...
LOL....yes, Abraham looks TOO much like his mom!!!
I still can't believe you are scared of a little opossum!!! (I haven't ventured over to that thread to admit MY phobia....it is STUPID).
LOL they really are cool and people definitely look when they see you have an opossum!!! Before I ended up with mine I saw a woman at the grocery store taking hers out of her car to pee....I freaked out! Had no clue you could have one!!! LOL Now I know!!!
Now, CWC, be sure to check your mail constantly for the baby!!! LOL Scared of them, huh!!! LOL I think they are cute.
Mine live in the house...and yes, much like a cat. Mine use puppy pads though, not a litter box, though I have heard some people's do. The love to snuggle under...
Well, the last ones we raised (there were 4) really got tame. Except for one HUGE male. He never seemed as friendly, even as a tiny baby. He was very aggressive with food (which is necessary to survive in the wild) and he finally just left one day. My mother has one girl and we have a boy...
I would have never thought to check them either until the ones two years ago. My mother is always the one who finds them and then she calls me. LOL I am just glad I went by her house today or this guy would have died tonight, however.
We dropper feed them puppy formula until they get big...
Thanks for the advice. Thankfully, with 3 little boys, there is no shortage of snuggling. The other two we raised are just precious little snuggle babies. We even got our male neutered. LOL We didn't want to tak any chances on he and his sister mating and they sure didn't want split up...
Thanks..... unfortunately you can't see his little whiskers in the pic....they are so soft and tiny.
Yeah, I can't turn my back on a baby in need. Not to mention the ones I already raised are just amazing pets. I love opossums little hands.
First, I want to say, if you are tempted to say "OMG kill that thing...flush it, feed it to your snakes, stomp it, you should have just left it to die" etc, I already KNOW some people feel that way. Obviously I don't. Otherwise I wouldn't be typing this now. 2 years ago I got some of these...
