this roo we got from a long time breeder and judge and these are older hens about 3-4 years old still laying. they get more white as they age.
but we did get a mottled hen once that was all black with 2 white spots. so under mottled if you say.
i just love the babies
a
chicks are so...
just make sure you are all watching the length of your legs on your hatched out chicks.
reguardless of color. keep the shortest legged chicks.
you can tell these apart at hatch.
I would have to speculate that someone bred the two colors together at some point to better either the gene pool or improve some sort of trait. or... possibly one of the parents hopped the fence?
we were trying to breed our btb hen and somehow she would find her way into the next pen either at...
if they are I suppose tall enough to mate with a larger hen they will... but i kept my japs separated from the others - we were breeding pure varieties together.
Thank you, someone local came and bought my whole flock. So the birds will be 30 min away and we can come see them anytime so thats a good thing.
and maybe someday we can get eggs to hatch from them when we can have chickens again.
I do have about 1 dozen eggs left if someone is interested...
We raise them in upstate ny so I keep heat lamps in there barn as the males tend to have frost bite on there comes.
We are selling out of all of japs if you are interested in traveling or paying shipping costs... pm me.
I am in upstate NY in Keeseville, and just across from Burlington VT...
well i had a surprise in the incubator when i came home from work.
the hen in the blue/black pen was trying to sit some eggs so i took them and put them in the bator.
so this little one hatched 2 days early.... but excited just the same.
I will have eggs for sale soon, just testing fertility on them. lol.
my husband forgot to collect them for a few days and i caught one sitting trying to be broody and so i candled them and saw something in there.
so i popped them into the incubator. and they are developing :) so looking good...
My daughter got some eggs last year and we now have a splash hen and a blue hen. and got a nice sq black roo for them.
we have some eggs in the incubator due to hatch sunday so with any luck we may have blue chicks or black chicks carrying blue.
here i have only seen blacks, whites, btws at...
I live in NY state and its pretty cold here. I usually try to keep them in pens of 3+ for there own body warmth. and i have 2 heat lamps i turn on when needed.
some roos combs have gotten frost bit but that was on the worst nights.
i bred a white and a btw and got one that was more columbian looking so who knows. it was mostly white - with light black arround the neck and tail area
I have my standard at home
but there is an exact # of "dots' in certain areas.
All I know is that they get more white as they age. So the older ones dont show well.
I have one older gal that she has a lot of white on her now- she is 2-3 yrs old.
I cant wait for spring so we can start hatching more of these :) we are also going to be working on blues this year.
keep loosing the white hens we purchased from a long time breeder so may be looking for a home for our white roo.
