Well, I am sorry that your chickie didn't make it...You will be able to try again soon.
This was a great learning experience for you and you will just be that much better on your next try!
If you need any help with the Miss Prissy Bator, you can ask us, but promise you will get your dad to...
Oh my gosh, that would be awful if it exploded...
77, you might want to put it inside of a ziploc sandwich bag when you attempt to pip it....just in case its not good...
~Rebecca
I too would gently pip the egg at the air cell area.
Make sure you read the posts at this link about when and how to intervene (help):
https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=48726
Candle it and mark with a pencil where the air cell is, then pip the egg. You will have to tap...
It may have hatched on Friday after she left....we just can't know till she gets back!
Come home 77!! We need an update!!
Please chickie be dancing in the 'bator!
~Rebecca
You could just leave it and ask her to give you an update everyday. If the chick hatches tell her not to open the bator at all. It won't need anything to survive except warmth. The water is not accessible by the chick is it? We wouldn't want it to get in the water.
~Rebecca
If you intervene and it needs help then you are really out of luck because you have to leave...
I guess you may have to leave and have someone watch it for you.... I don't know
~Rebecca
I would probably take the bator with me but put the egg in my shirt to keep it warm. Plug the bator up when you get to your dad's house. Its a long shot but I don't know what else you could do.
