WEll now it's been awhile. Update on the berry bushes. The red currants have produced and I've got some black currant bushes that yielded about 6 cups. I only have two reds and they've given me enough for red jelly and black/red jelly. Have Jostaberries and they've done okay but will be picking...

Well now I'm of the mind that somethings you can get for free. Fruit that grows wild. Apples from friends. You can only eat so much in a year. Don't put up to much cuz it won't last forever. Check for wild grapes, apples etc. etc. Unless you intend to sell your overage. Check old abandoned...

There were many posting on FB about to heat or not to heat. Some posters said "birds froze to death". I recently lost my Birchen Maran rooster. This right after the Jan thaw and tempts in the 50's that dropped to below zero the next day. I had stated that I thought birds that seem to die due to...

let me know how those Buckeyes do. Where did you get them. I've considered dumping the marans and adding Bucks instead. Cold hard are they? My marans don't hatch well and since even the hens have a hard time, I figure they're not worth the trouble. I only hatch with hens these days. No time for...

Well I had one of those "duh!" moments when I realized I could just pop the tops and reprocess the tomatoes after adding th forgotten lemon juice and work out the bubbles. So I did. I didn't like waiting for the water boil since it took a long time.

I also have two wagons for toting things like buckets or containers of feed. In the winter I fill milk jugs with hot water to the runs. No water in the coops as a rule. There may be exceptions like when I'm using the hoop for brooding chicks. Used wheel barrows are cheap too. I have two. I've...
