Hello andreanar, I apologize for my delay. Yes, this appears to be a cockerel. It's possible it is a black Langshan or part Langshan. We'd need to wait and see for a bit to see how he will develop to be certain.
Hello everyone. I apologize for my absence on here. My life has been a bit insane as of late, however I intend to fix that and will be on here more often!
Hello Canuck,
I wanted to be sure you were able to get into contact with a Canadian breeder. If not, please let me know and I'll forward you some info!
I also wanted to give a brief update as to the American Langshan Club. We have placed new officers in charge of the club and are updating our...
So glad you like them! Out of all my birds, only the Langshans go for the tops of the feeders! It's funny watching them vs. the Brahmas when they're growing up! The Brahmas run to me to "tattle" on the Langshans and the Langshans continue to chow down.
I asked off for Nov. 20 here so I should be able to go to Canton, TX for a rabbit show. I'll be sure to bring some birds with me if you can for sure meet me. I'd hate to have a bunch of birds in the car and stressing for nothing.
For right now, I'm certain to have a splash pullet a black...
1) Where can I get Langshan chicks/ young birds good enough to start a breeding program?
2) Is there a Hatchery that sells good enough birds that it would be feasible to start with them and work to improve the strain?
3) Is there any point in using my Blue to start a breeding program, if I...
You know...the more I try to resist heading to TX, the more people I feel need birds! LOL!
I may be making a trip towards Canton, TX here in November but I can't be certain as of this point. I may have some good pullets and good quality cockerels for sale at that point?
Hello!
Unfortunately, the heads of many breeds appear similar. This bird has a very misformed comb as well, however I do not believe this bird has any Asiatic blood in him. He does not appear to have leg feathers at all so would not have Langshan, Brahma or Cochin blood in him.
This is a post that was made back in September. It may be helpful to read through the thread just to be sure you don't get taken advantage of by breeders selling poor quality birds because of rumors.
Not a problem! He does appear to have some Asiatic blood in him, so he may be part Cochin or could have ancestry from a Langshan that at one point had been bred from a yellow-skinned bird.
He does look very friendly. I hope you're able to keep him when he starts crowing!
Hello and welcome to the thread! I don't believe this bird is a Langshan. Langshans have white skin (dominant trait) and your little guy (yes a cockerel) has yellow. You can see this by the skin color around the eye as well as looking at the bottom of his feet. I believe this may be a Cochin or...
Hello Jaye, I wrote on your post but will need updated photos. With the birds the breeder claims he has the chance is that it is a poor quality Brahma mixed with an Australorp.
Chances are you have a cockerel. If the wing bows have not feathered in at about the same rate as the rest of the bird, it is more than likely a cockerel.
What you were dealing with, I'm not entirely sure it was Mareks. It happened mainly in the cockerels correct? Right at the hock? Did it look as though the birds were walking stilted then all of a sudden the hocks bowed in towards each other?
