Sadly, after a long visit with my vet, we made the decision this afternoon to end my little chickens fight for life. She spiraled badly over the weekend and we just couldn't see any possible recovery for her. Poor little girl spent a third of her life all twisted up and that was enough. Rest...
Well I've scheduled another vet appointment. Sigh. She does seem better, more alert, she'll pull her head up to eat eggs and starter kibble out of a bowl if I support her, but we've plateaued and she doesn't seem to be improving any more. Currently giving her antibiotics twice a day...
Not the whole head but about 1/4 of it. Behind the left ear back on the one side. I've pushed around on it and there doesn't seem to be a mass of any sort. I asked the vet today if maybe we should try a different antibiotic but haven't heard back from him yet. The good news is she seems to be...
In case anyone is following still, she is improving again. She's back to the strength that she had last Wednesday, and she can pull her head upright for a few seconds at a time if I hold her still. She's trying to peck at scrambled eggs (she really seems to love them), but is very off balance...
I wonder is it's possible that I've given her too much vitamin E? Anyone have experience with the that? I was very careful with the selenium because everyone warned about overdosing with that but I was giving her a lot of vitamin E. I think I'm going half mad over this poor baby!!
I have not tried the vitamin B yet. There was an infection for sure, 2 days on the antibiotics and the swelling around her face is completely gone! She is also much more alert with her eyes open. That's the good news but infortunately the twisting has gotten even worse! She can't stand up...
Here is a more detailed review of recent events: firstly, knowing I had a vet appointment Wednesday morning but not being able to wait an entire day and a half without doing anything, Monday around 2 pm I gave her a small dose of aspirin. By the time I made it home to feed her again at 430...
We have family over for dinner so I will give a more thorough overview of the vet visit later, but basically the vet thinks it's bacterial or viral and we're trying antibiotics. I will update more in a bit!
Attached is a picture that really shows the swelling on the left side of her head...
no mucus or discharge from either her nose or eyes, although her right eye she keeps tucked under flipped around and I have trouble getting a good look at it. No wheezing or breathing issues either. She...
Possibly. It really does follow the symptoms of wry neck though, and for the first two days she really seemed to be getting better with the vitamin E. I'm thinking the swelling in her head just got worse, gave her a tiny bit of aspirin this afternoon and she seemed to respond within an hour...
Working on an 8 week old chick with what appears to be wry neck. Found her Wednesday collapsed upsidown in her container, no symptoms prior to that. Immediately started her on electrolytes, vitamin E and Selenium. First day was terrible, but the second and third day she really seemed to...
