Well, the Wyandotte will have a rose comb unless you get one with a single comb, as I have. The tail of a Wyandotte is more upright, I believe, and it has yellow legs as opposed to the white/pinky legs of a Buff Orp or the slate to blue/black legs of the Blue Orps. There are some differences...

This may help some regarding the Orp shape. I have one pullet in particular who has been called "typey", meaning an excellent example of the breed's conformation. Below are pics of Velvet and here it the site to check out: http://freespace.virgin.net/mick.barrett/Breed_Standards.htm

Yep, that's why I said "that I know of" because when someone starts working on a breed variety project, they keep it pretty much under wraps until they are really ready to unveil it. No telling what interesting projects are going on right under our noses, LOL.

Hi, Teresa! Yes, we have gold and silver laced Cochins, but not the Cuckoo Orps, that I've ever heard about. Not much imagination over here, LOL, except among us dreamers who oftentimes dont have the resources to make things happen. Ewesheep, I'd love to throw Nelda in with Suede. I'd rather...

Teresa, you are wonderful to write that all out for us nutcases, LOL! Thank you, that does all make perfect sense.

The blue and red colors of my Orps, RIRs and Speckled Sussex are lovely together, so I'd love to have some Jubilee Orps.

Teresa, that three weeks is for the sperm of the former rooster to leave the body and to be sure the current rooster is the sire of the chicks. After a mating, an egg can be fertile in just a couple of days. And I'm almost 100% positive that Lorelei's eggs have never been fertile. I dont have...

Teresa, thanks for the suggestions. I probably won't put her in with his harem to stay because the main flock rooster, my Barred Rock, would probably bash himself against the fence over and over just because one of his women was in with his Big Blue Enemy, LOL. He won't mate her, but he sure...

Yeah, I don't know the answer to that one, but this is all I have to work with so maybe I'll just try it. Last time Suede has the opportunity to get hold of one of my older ladies (she was being stubborn and wouldn't go in the pen, so I let Suede and his group out to range anyway), he ran after...

Interesting group project. I could try to throw Lorelei, my single combed Silver Laced Wyandotte, in with Suede, my Blue Orp, and see what happened; that is, if he wouldn't run screaming like a girl when she tried to beat him up, LOL. She is in with my Barred Rock rooster, but her eggs have...

I think we're forming a new little club here, LOL. Everybody wants all this eye candy we can't seem to find!

Hey, can't let the Brits have all the fun, right, LOL? I'd love some of the laced Orps.

I have my Blue Orpington cockerel, Suede, but I never thought about pairing them up. I think Suede would run for his life from Lorelei, LOL. Lorelei is one of my original flock and she thinks of Suede as an upstart youngster. Bet she could scare that big blue turkey! Here is Suede:

Oh, no, she's a Silver, sorry. ((slaps head with palm)). We're talking gold laced Orps, here, Cyn! So many hatchery Wyandottes pop up with single combs here in the U.S.. Every batch seems to have one or two of them. I purchased day olds and out of three SLW girls, one had a single comb.

I have a single combed Wyandotte hen, but no Buff Orp rooster, alas. Would have been interesting to try that.

Oh, and Adam, when you get those GoldLaced Orpingtons up to laying age, how's about sending some sweet little hatching eggs down to your Blue Orp supplier, LOL?

Yes, Adam, I do know where you can get quality Buff Orp females. Jody here (hinkjc) raises some beauties! They beat the hatchery Buff Orps, hands down. If I get more, they're coming from her stock. Keep us up to date on this project. Barnevelders are cool-looking birds, too. Hope you can find...

You get this project going successfully, YOU'LL be the one with the coveted Orpington eggs! I am no genetics person so I don't know how much help I'd be, but hey, just for your viewing pleasure, this page has some pics of the GoldLaced Orps, hens and rooster, on it, as well as blues, etc. We...
