Dying with laughter .... I have been out on some of those roads in dead of winter when a storm rolls in, and I always thought I was well-prepared but now think I should've started to keep chickens sooner (and in the car, just in case).

I think so. I've been doing a bit more digging around about them. They were one of the last minute add ons to my order, so I spent the least time reading up on them beforehand. The only chicken we are interested in showing from this bunch (so far) is one of the Polish. My 6-year-old is in 4H and...

These are so great! I love the Molly and Tank picture. I don't think I looked at these partocular birds in my search. Gorgeous though! Trying to imagine a 12 hour drive with chickens ... oh my! I'm looking forward to the chicks growing into full grown chickens and having them out in the yard...

Wow! So different! The chicken in the front on the right is really beautiful! What is she?

Excellent advice! I feel really duh right now because I only ordered two Salmon Faverolles and just realized that I have three! That's the freebie! I think they did that one because one has a bum eye. At first we thought it had no eye in one of the sockets, but we've been able to clean the eye...

Great idea on the Breed ID forum. And on being an enabler with Debby! Oh my, I went from let's get 4 chicks to 25 chicks pretty much the moment I started looking at pics and reading about the breeds. I was reading the reviews on this sites of different breeds and the cons were minimal for...

I ordered from McMurray because after reading around and asking some folks locally, they seemed to have a good rep for correctly sexing chicks. Roosters aren't legal where we are zoned, so if any turn out to be roos then they will have to either be rehomed or culled. We have 2 acres and no...

The crazy thing is, they sent me 27 chicks and I ordered 25. They gave me an extra RIR and indicated so on the order, and then a "Free Rare Exotic". One of my chicks died and she was definitely one of the four Silver Laced Wyandottes. I have three of those remaining, but had ordered four...

OK, so I went back and looked at my order and some pics from the hatchery where they came from (McMurray), and I think I have it sorted. The Andalusians have more variety than I anticipated. They are called Blue Andalusian, but well, here is one: I got my flock from Murray McMurray...

Thanks @sunflour ! I am going to take another look. If those little Black ones are the Dominiques, the I have no idea who my Blue Andalusians are! Well, there is one little one posted below that I am pretty sure is a Blue Andalusian, but there is only one and there were supposed to be two. hmmmm...

I wanted to post some pics of my little chicks, but it's taken a while to get some good photos. I seem to be sick was some wretched respiratory thing, but finally just out of bed from a long day of much needed rest. We have 26 chicks. Honestly, I didn't think they would all arrive alive based...

I have a story from a couple years ago that really sums up Wyoming to me (note: I'm not a native Wyomingite, but lived there for 7 years while I attended grad school at UWYO and was heartbroken to leave). We did a 30 day trip that I dubbed the Sea to Shining Sea Road Trip. Started in NY and...

We've been talking about out for the Beartrap Music Festival up in Casper. We used to come back more regularly because my previous work gave me 6 weeks off each year and we would take it in July and August given that the only other season in Wyoming is winter ... hahaha. The first time I visited...

Just saw this and thought, I miss Wyoming. For the past week, for whatever reason, my DH and I have been nostalgic for Wyoming. I think we're pretty well stuck in NY for a long while given our jobs and that we bought a house. But, we try to get back to visit every couple years.

Thanks! That's awesome that your little one pulled through. On Day 1, I had no idea for half a day and so I think I lost a lot of time with my little one. What was weird is that this morning she was standing upright, leaning on the box, but upright and chirping so I thought what little we had...

Thanks for your recommendation on the Stargazing thread to offer her a stuffed animal. We did that last night and she spent a lot of time cuddled under it. I think it helped to give her comfort when she wasn't being held.

Unfortunately, Stargazer (we started calling her that) just passed away. I tried the Nutri Drench and continued with food and water, but no go. She failed to thrive over these past 24 critical hours. Her final few hours were very peaceful and all the spasms had ceased and she would relax easily...

Yep. I found some posts and then started a thread and got advice. Unfortunately, I can't get to TSC until lunchtime today and so hopefully as long as I keep watering her and giving her bits of food, it will be enough to keep her strength up. She really wants to be held too. If I cup her into my...
