I had my broody hen hatching an egg. I originally had 3 but only 1 was fertile. Today was day 20 and this morning I saw the pup hole and could hear the cheek peeping from inside the egg. I was so excited for the hatch. Today I went away for a few hours and left my broody hen, her soon to hatch egg, and 12 2 1/2 month old chicks in with her. I was away for about 6 hours. I was so excited to see the egg's progress when I got back. The second I got home, I raced to the coop. I lifted up my broody hen and... no egg. I panicked and searched the entire coop. I found half of the chicks shell on the very opposite side of the coop. The chick was no where to be found. I was absolutely devastated. My guess is that one of the chicks ate it? Any thoughts/theories? I'm extremely sad.
