Well, it's a bit of a long story, but I'll give you the shortened version.

My family loves a certain strange comedy movie with a main character named Ling - as a chick, he happened to make a sound identical to her quirky noises.

It seemed to stick after we jokingly called him "Ling" for a month or so.
