Help! Chick has difficult breathing?

I wish I could help, but I am new to chickens myself. However I am a NICU nurse and that looks like what we would call agonal breathing. For humans it is not a good thing. I hope your little one makes it.

Are there any other symptoms that you have noticed that might help the knowledgeable people on here help you more effectively? For instance, how long has it been going on? can you think of what might have happened before this started? Was the chick eating and drinking appropriately or have you noticed it not doing it like it should.

Think of ANYTHING that could help, even if it seems minor.

Oh, and maybe you should try posting this question in the emergencies and diseases section. That might get you more responses

good luck

Oh, no. we don't know much of this chick. Got her yesterday from someone no longer want to care for her. She is still eating and drinking. sleeps a lot with that breathing pattern. Looking for a local chick doctor now.

This does not look good at all. I'm not real experienced but I would say this chicken will not survive

Where do you live? Newcastle disease is a problem in some parts of Europe. It attacks red blood cells and makes it hard for a chick to breathe. It's also very contagious and mostly fatal. To determine if this could be the problem with your chicks, take a stool sample to a vet or an agricultural lab.
