The Double-Decker Brooder

I finished my duck brooder, V2.0!

I was able to hang it from my shelves above which saved building a stand for it. Now I can pull the pan out and clean it without having a wild duck-grab.

The other happy circumstance is that I can see them from my chair right here, which I love! DUCK TV! I might never let them out of the brooder!!

I did some googling and found a reference that said wire is OK but should be 1/4 to 1/3 of the floor space. I think with their 'area rug', it will be OK. It did say duck feet are more delicate & susceptible to injury than chicken feet - which makes sense now that I think about it.

I'll add a second section of shelf liner if there is any trouble with it being abrasive...

Does anyone have any ideas to help with a fish tank? I have a large 75 gallon fish tank that the little ones are housed in and I am constantly changing the towel they are on. I havent figured out a way to set them off the bottom to make cleanup easier. I like the fish tank because I have a netted top (not pictured) to keep my cat out and I cant put them with my chicks because they hurt the little ducklings.

I love your brooder design! Were you able to keep them in the full 3 weeks before putting them outside?
I am new to ducks, and I have a question. I've heard that the hamster type waterer is GREAT for chickens and ducks... and I'm really looking into one for my new batch of chicks ...over 40! But, I read that ducks have to also have a dish deep enough to clear their nostrils.. . do you just put both in there?

Have these pictures been lost to the outernet? I'd love to see anyone who has this or something similar after reading so many posts of people modeling their setups after this one.

Unfortunately in 2020, the pics are not showing up and wifezilla hasn't been around since 2015
