Keep us updated on what you decide... I have wondered about the rolling on the side also...seems more natural and how a hen would do it..

I decided to order. I like the rolling idea. Also like that it might limit my hatching being smaller. Yeah, right.

I guess I'll be looking for some quail eggs in about a week.

Awesome! A new bator. I thought quail were seasonal layers.... Wing?

If I left my quail outside and only covered with a tarp at night, they would keep laying in winter..if I moved them inside they would stop.....so yes the need light but nowhere near what a chicken needs...
I did have a little cinnamon quail in my kitchen for 3 years, kept in one of those little plastic hanging bird cages...she would lay most of the year with occasional breaks.

Hello you are probably my closest BYC neighbor,
frow.gif
we had the same, maybe even more at the top of mountain. I'm hoping to get eggs next month for hatching, do you know anyone in the area that would have any of the following - Americaunas, BCMs, EEs, OEs, or Welsummers. Appreciate your help.
Hi, I used to live in scandia PA!!!!! what are BCM's. I might but I am not sure I will have to ask. If you go to the local tsc in warren and ask for Pete Westover I believe he has those he works at tsc. I have a butterscotch cal drake that I would practically pay you to take if you want him!

Sorry not cal, call duck.
My DH and I are the new owners of Red Oak Campground. We bought it 2 years ago. I was a hatch-a-holic. We were too busy fixing the place to start with a flock. But I'm ready now for hatching eggs. Sorry, I'm not ready for ducks. BCM is Black Copper Maran, they lay the darkest chocolate covered egg. I'm in love with having every colored egg possible, various shades of blue, green, olive. Even my brown eggs ranged from light pinkish brown to dark chocolate. It's just fun collecting them and showing them to others who think there's only brown and white.

No I dont know about the marans. You could buy from a hatchery or go to tsc and put a wanted sign and I am sure someone will contact you that has them.
