ok i know this is a Very old post but i just came across it and wanted to share how much this has helped me ... we rescued a roo who has a backwards leg and we always knew he was destined for a less than normal life. this past winter he got frost bite on that foot, i think . we are still not sure if it could be just loss of circulation since he’s never used that foot much ... either way it looks like frost bit and i’m pretty sure he’s gonna loose the foot. in all actuality i think this will help him get around better than he has ... since the warmer weather has gotten here he seems to be in better spirits going outside and moving around the coop. still not as much as he did last spring / summer. i can’t believe it could take up to two years for his foot to fall off. i really hope it happens sooner. the last pic was taken about 2 months ago and he has since developed the “ring” where you can tell it’s gonna fall off at. thanks again for all the info!

It usually takes about a month or so for a frostbitten foot to fall off. Usually the foot becomes shriveled pretty quickly. Your rooster’s foot does not have that shriveled appearance that I have seen in pictures of typical frostbite. You may want to check with a vet in case they need to amputate it, since it doesn’t look typical severe frostbite in chickens foot

Thanks! it actually fell off about a week ago. my baby is do well and already seems happier. I'm not sure it was ever actually frost bite or if it was just dead do to no circulation because of the way he was born. either way he is doing great!
