First, the splash Ameraucana per request from Scott. DH played wrangler for me and we put them under the "surgical" lights in the kitchen. One of the black Ameraucanas is just teeny-tiny, exactly bantam sized and is in the pics with my Cracker Jack surprise, my BLRW/BBS Ameraucana cross baby. I love that one! This is going to be a fun batch!

Boy, the stink eye on that splash baby might mean Scott is in for trouble if it's a roo! What a cutie!

I am just in love with little Red, it will be fun tofollow the progress.

Gosh, Cynthia, I honestly believed the weather report I heard this morning- made me think both of us would MAYBE get a dusting, but it's coming down here too - glad you are warm and snug!

If looks could kill, we'd all be six feet under right now!

We are already well over the inch that was predicted for my neck of the woods. And no signs of letting up, either.

How is that storm progressing Cynthia? I'm so glad you two managed to get hunkered down real good before it hit. *shiver* Isn't it nice to have everything you need close at hand so that you can just enjoy the beauty of it all?

Looks like that very tiny black Ameraucana may not thrive. It was acting like it didn't even see the food or water, just sleeps and snuggles with the others, walks right over the feeder where the rest are eating. I think it could be blind. The left eye usually stays closed. I used water on a Qtip to wash it out gently, in case something from the egg got in there. The eyeball is there, but it doesn't react to my hand in front of its face at all on either side. I have had one blind chick in the past, a blue Orp, and it was very obvious it was blind and we euthanized it. Perhaps this one's size is just one symptom that something is not right.

Chickens don't have much of a sense of smell, so no, it won't be able to find it. I hate that, poor baby went through all the trouble to hatch and now this. When the others leave it to run around and eat and drink, it will sometimes stand up and chirp, calling to them, then blunder around till it finds someone to snuggle with.

Cute babies!

Look at all those pretty colors! You're going to have an interesting flock with all these little guys when they grow up!

Shame about the one baby. Don't give up hope entirely yet, I had a little OEGB who was like that and she somehow miraculously made it and is now a normal-sized, very healthy and energetic adult OEGB (four years old). As they say, hope for the best, prepare for the worst.
