Haha, that one and Wynette's freaky Olive Egger ones are what I was thinking when I saw this thread.

Neat egg from the OP too. I hope someday my OEs will give me crazy green/brown ones.

I think the ink jet needs cleaning LOL
I do get 1 like that once in awhile as well my pullets are all under a year old.....they sure are unique to say the least. Kim.

I haven't heard of Bovan Browns. I'll have to look them up! The hen is just about a year old. She just finished her molt and started laying again a few weeks ago. Maybe the "paint roller" is still getting back up to speed!

I bought my BBs from a local guy who gets the eggs from a supplier and then hatches them out and sells them at various ages.
Mine were about 6 weeks when I got them.
I believe they are a sex link breed but not sure.
They are a basic red hen but with white specks on the tail. I'll have to take more pics as my computer died with all my precious poultry pics lost inside it.

I've just written a blogpost about why that happens to eggs!
http://www.hencam.com/henblog/2012/02/brown-green-blue-white-chicken-egg-color-the-real-story/
The short answer is that the rounder end goes first through the shell gland. The pigment is laid onto that end with more pressure and more "paint" than the narrow end. If there's a pause in the movement, the first half of the egg will be much darker. Also, the egg is rotating. The slower the rotation, the more speckles, faster and you'll have stripes. Check my blog - lots more about it!

That's beautiful! You may be interested to know how eggs are normally made and why some eggs, like this one, are not 'normal.' I wrote about it here and have posted lots of photos of examples of odd eggs: http://eggcartonlabels.blogspot.com/2012/01/how-hen-makes-egg-egg-oddities.html

And here is a gorgeous example sent to me by a fan on my Facebook page, Jessica Berger:

Check out what my black cochin left me in the nest box today. It looks like a paint roller went around the middle...

I got these two from the same hen over 2 days. A french copper maran. They are so unusual! I cant crack these, I am going to blow them and keep them to wonder over. I hope she lays me some more.
