I went out to see how my ducks were doing just a few minutes ago, and I saw flies in their temporary run like you wouldn't believe! I have never seen that many flies in my life! They seem scared to come out of their coop and I'm worried.
Is there any safe/harmless way I can get rid of them without using harsh chemical sprays?
If I use sprays I know that it will hurt my ducks! I need some natural household remedy!

A friend who keeps chickens said she read the air fresheners like you put in your car that hang in the vanilla fragrance is suppose to keep flies away. I don't know if it's true but i am going to try it. Also sprinkle DE on and around the run over the poop it may help keep them to a min.

I'll try it! I'm open to trying anything at this point...I expected flies but not at this magnitude :(!
Thanks for the advice, Lydia!!!

Look into fly predators. Google Arbico Organics. They also have repellents that are very safe. We have horses, goats, ducks and rabbits. And almost no nuisance flies. They don't take care of all types, like tiny minges, but they really do help.

Thank you both so much! <3

God bless !!!!

Reusable fly traps will help NOW and kill them too. They come with bait. Most stores have some sort of fly trap. Also, fly strips hung on the side of the run, out of reach of the ducks, will catch a few too.

Flies like damp and poo. Ducks make damp and poo. Flies are terrible if you don't do anything about them. I have 5 traps going during the season, I clean daily, keep it as dry as I can, and this year we've seen far less than last year. A normal amount I'd say, no swarms or masses like this freak thing that happened last year after 20 straight days of rain. Good lord, that was bad! The traps immediately helped.

Check your local feed store for the fly traps for stables. They are either going to be a bag type or a jug. Hang them up where the ducks cant get into them and low down where the flies like to be. I hate flies. They are already driving my horses nuts and it seems like there is a ton this year.
