ok so I have this 6 month old gold laced wyandotte. It has been with our silkies an big birds for about 2-3 months when I got it. comb has recently gotten very red... thoght it was laying or near POl for a pullet.

Then today- it is fighting non stop with our roo. Attacking it. Now roo is a silkie but not a very dominant one. Prefers his silkie girls other bantam in there. It puts hackles out and jumps. But hackles dont look much different than my Silver laced wyandotte that I knowi s a hen...
Is this a roo? Need to send with friend today if it is.

Looks like a hen to me..... what makes you think its a roo? Just the fighting? I have a dominent hen who will fight with the rooster, but doesn't fluff out like the roosters do just gets in the fight stance.
I had several roos last year and at that age the comb was much larger and the tail and saddle feathers were very apparent...
they were however hatchery stock so did bnot have the nice lacing yours has so I could be wrong, hopefully someone who raaises them can chime in with a forsure.......... Kim

when your hens get aggressive do they flare their neck hackles as well.. that along with the fighting is what makes me think. that is the second pic.

Just wondering if yours is from hatchery stock. Both my GLW and my SLWs are from MMH and act like your describing. Both are temperamental and bossy! I have a HUGE EE pullet that outweighs and out muscles them both by quite a bit but its not unusual to see the flare their necks out and try to get into it with her... but she keeps them in line fairly well. Ive been told there is a temperament issue with the hatchery LWs but I don't know if that's true or not... but I do know that mine are bossy and knowing what these two are like, I personally wouldn't order them again.

its a 130% hen there are no saddle feathers, tail is small with no sickle feathers, and the hackles are hen hackles fat and rounded feathers also it would look different if it was a rooster. shes probably trying to move up in rank in the pecking order or she might just not like him
