Hi,
My 1 month and 1 week old chick keeps getting an impacted crop. In the morning she looks fine and you can hardly notice the crop. But in the afternoon there is a massive lump on it! I keep massaging it and giving her olive oil but this isnt helping.
Is there anything I could do to help it or will she be like this forever?
Thank-you :) x

Did you get an answer? I have 4 of 4 with it now, only 3 weeks old. Not wanting to pay a vet bill for them when I can just replace with a new batch from the hens and roo.

I'm not sure if there is a real answer to this, but the same thing kept happening with one of my chickens. I talked to a vet we know whose sister is an avian nutritionist, and she said that sometimes chicks just eat more than they should or faster than they should and this is what happens. She also said they will usually stop with this eating behavior after the first couple times since the impacted crop is uncomfortable, but mine continued doing it for a while. I freaked out the first couple times, but now I'm just used to it (and she seems to be growing out of this behavior a little). Just watch to make sure your chick keeps acting normally. I still pay a little extra attention to mine who does this to make sure it doesn't escalate to sour crop. I don't tknow if this helps too much, but at least now you know your baby isn't sick!
