The Old Folks Home

Our barn, like the majority of Amish built barns around us, has three sides along with a big loft.
Ah, a large run in shed ;) Yeah I can see how wood can dry in those conditions. It is pretty darn dry in the little barn when I stored delivered wood. So dry in fact that the dirt floor is the chickens' favorite dust bathing spot. Craters all over. But I don't know that wood can sufficiently dry in there with no open sides.

a huge spider probably quarter sized all together
Um if you think a quarter size spider is "huge" you best stay away from big ones! DD1 took a 3" wolf spider to kindergarten show and tell many years ago. Now she screams if she sees a 1/4" spider.

I started working there the year after they started using All glass aquariums instead of the kind with glass and steel and tar to hold them all together.
You are an Old Fart!!! :p I remember the metal and glass aquariums, we had a 10 gallon one when I was a kid.

Things going well now that the radiation is done??

Hello Geriatrics! It is I, your OP back from reality to immerse myself in BYCdom once again. I see a lot of new names here, but I'm thankful to see many, many OFs still here.
Hey Wisher! Still real busy in retirement I guess. Do stop by a bit more often as time permits.

Hi Wisher! Good to have you drop by. Always a pleasure to see the founder of TOFH.

As for me.....

Wow I am the same way... though since i got mugged I am a little more mindful of my surroundings when I am out of the car. I will chat with anyone... even bikers that I am not so sure if they are Hells Angles or not.

How many breeds of fish do you have? I used to work in a large store that had over two hundred Aquariums and an Ichtheologist on staff. Learned alot about the practical side of keeping fish. I started working there the year after they started using All glass aquariums instead of the kind with glass and steel and tar to hold them all together.

At one point I had over three hundred gallons worth of aquariums in my house. A big 110 gallon Two sixty gallon ones and the odd twenty and ten.... One was setup as a vivarium... half water half land... That was my sons.

In my 110 I bought about eight quarter sized angel fish... Buy the end of four months give or take they were almost the size of my hand.... and even spawned on one of the artificial plants...

That is so cool Deb.. I breed angelfish, severums, bristle nose plecos-albino and black, and both in long finned and short finned variety, some rare coridoras catfish that you can't find in pet shops; but I've breed a bunch more.. I've been keeping fish since I was 5 yrs old, except for my time in the Marine Corps.. I also work with a few fish farms where I get fish whole sale.. Right now I'm down to seven fish tanks from 17.. Since I've been working with the fish farms it's been easier for me; I don't have to breed as many, they do it for me, and whole sale price is very low.. I'm not going to say what percentage I make on the sale, but it's pretty good when I do make a few sales in one week.. I have cut down on breeding out of the house a good chunk..

Set up a fish tank Deb, I'll ship the fish to you, a gift, k? I'm on a mission to advance the hobby.. Technology has advance so much that fish tank maintenance is a breeze, I do all my maintenance on Saturday mornings and do my filter's cleaning on Tuesday/Wednesday.. I want to dispel that myth that "It's just too much work"..

Fish tanks/watching fish is good for depression, high BP, relaxing in general.. I've heard of a little girl that had a problem with constipation, the parents put a fish tank right in front of the toilet, where she can see it while sitting in the commode, problem solved!! That's the short version of that story.. Keep in contact, lets get you some fish.. :)

Good morning to all @perchie.girl glad to have you pop in hope all is well... getting started @Wisher1000 you where retiring as I started me thinks but I have been known to be wrong anyway always good to know we are all still going on .. shopping here today

My BA eggs have arrived. 1 broke, but the rest are good. I spritzed them good with oxine water, and gently patted dry to help protect against bacteria from the egg white that got on them. I'll let them sit for 48 hours, then put them in the bator. I NEED an outstanding rooster, so I'm praying for some excellent cockerels.

That is OF for 'Old Folk' or 'Old Friends' or even 'Old Farts!' I can think of others, like 'Old F'ers,' 'Ornery Fellers,' 'Odd Folks,' ... but I digress. Feel free to choose whichever you think fits you best.
Where ya been? :frow
