1st time Guinea mum (almost)

Thanks for the update K!

Rocky is a cutie (I am a softy for Pieds)... and will most likely buck-wheat before an egg is laid, if Rocky turns out to be a Hen. But he/she is plenty old enough to have started buck-wheating by now. Have you tried separating him/her from your flock, and see if he/she starts the 2-syllable call? Separation anxiety sets in when they can't see you or the flock and the little Hens can't keep quiet.

Congrats, and glad he/she is so tame!

Thanks he's a sweetie. I have strong reason to believe he's a boy because when I leave his site his site he starts that terrible 1 tone sound. He is on his own because he will not stay with the flock. He's imprinted on me I think. Today after yard chores me and Rocky went for a walk to the next yard of a friend and little Rocky scampered after me

If you can, try getting him another guinea or two. They really are flock animals and without one, he's not really happy. I'm sure you're great company for him, but another guinea would go a long way to making him feel good. :).

I know I have been trying but Guineas are hard to come by where I live. I will have to hatch some. Once our garden is sorted the plan is him and 3 other hens will be in our garden together so its only temp thing, like 3 weeks now. Will be lovely having him home with us again!! But your right I would prefer another guinea than hens. Its not like he's on his own. At the yard he has chickens around him but hes in a pen because when I leave he follows me. So all day hes got about 10 chickens going about their business. Should I put a docile hen in the pen with him? He just has no interaction with them even when he comes out his pen so I wonder if the roomate would make a difference???

Kymw90, it's hard to predict if he would get along with a hen or two, but it's worth a try. It may work out great, but they tend to self-segregate themselves, as you're seeing in your flock - they don't hang out together. Guineas get very stressed when separated from their flock, and while you're great company for him, when you're not around he's stressed. And while I probably would find you very good company, he would rather have some guineas. No offense

There are livestock magazines here in the U.S. that sell poultry of all kinds, and I'll bet the U.K. has something like that too. They're very inexpensive to advertise in here ($5.00 for a year) - hopefully they would be there?
