When will a rooster start crowing?

My rooster was slightly over 6months when he first started crowing. It took him a while to move up in the pecking order being he was the youngest of the bunch.

One of our P RIR cockerels just started throat singing a week ago, and he's 21 weeks old now. He's trying to copy our adult OEGB, however, Banty is a tenor, and he's more of a garbled baritone, so he sounds like Scooby Doo playing the kazoo.

In the past month alone, I've had both of my most-extreme crowers begin their noises. One was just 5 weeks old - a bantan frizzle cochin. The other was 9 months old - a black sumatra.

The sumatra I am not surprised about. They are slow to grow and develop, seasonal layers only, and I don't even expect to see their eggs before spring. The hens (same age) just recently started using their "adult voices". But the bantam frizzle cochin did surprise me. I was walking back from the main pen, going to get the chick feed for them and he just flew up onto the edge of the dish and let some squeaky-but-throaty noise loose.

My hens an two roosters who a just 4 months stared crowing about 2 weeks ago. My blue andalusian rooster who is just under 4 months just stared crowing this week.
