I have received some weird looking eggs and I am thinking that they are from a comet. Are these "normal" looking "starter eggs"?

Pullet eggs can be strange while their system figures out how to produce an egg. They may be shelless blobs, tiny like marbles, gravelly texture, and then yours. Looks like all the calcium for the shell didn't get put down. It takes a bit till things falls into place and a average egg is produced.

I wouldn't worry about it at this point - it can take several tries to get it worked out.

Welcome to BYC!

New layers can lay all kinds of funky eggs. It takes some time to get their egg laying machines in gear. Make sure they are on layer feed now and have plenty of oyster shell on the side for them.

This shouldn't be a problem, but keep an eye on the eggs. This should clear up in the next month or so.

Enjoy your flock and welcome to ours1

I agree!

Welcome to the REAL chicken world, dkissler!
My RIR pullets started laying at just shy of 4 months! They are dropping little egg balloons from the roost! Every day they

become more curious about the nesting boxes. In the meantime, I've placed a safety net to catch the balloons for my breakfast! The Leghorns started early too, they're eggs are small but fully formed. That's a Leghorn egg in the net! LOL
