Hi
I have two broody silkies :-(. I have read on here the suggestions to break them or let them set and hatch. I have a friend that is willing to give me a couple of fertile eggs for them to hatch BUT I dont want babies to raise at all. Does anyone know if I do let them hatch, will they be ok...
I have heard that this may be just because she is broody but I am on who likes to have multiple opinion so take a look at this photo and tell me what you think. It appeared very quickly but does not appear to have any affect on her.
Last time I found a broody hen on a nest outside the coop I totally botched it. Well, I did manage to hatch out 11 of 16 eggs after I scared the hen off the nest trying to 'protect it.' This time it's almost December. About to turn cold here. Would you leave her alone? Take her eggs? Idk what...
DH went to do a last check in on our emo chick, Xena, tonight and said their was a little mouse that scurried across the floor, fairly close to our girl. Now, I'm freaked out.
She is the only one in the BHC (Brooder Hospital Coop). It's pretty small with only 2 nests and no roost bars, plus...
I've got a 8-month-old hen that's been sneezing a lot. I noticed it last week while they were having their afternoon free range time. Her sneezes start and continue on for at least 5 minutes back to back. Other than that she wasn't acting funny at all, no discharge from eyes or nose and didn't...
For those who don't know, I recently had a very young pullet go broody. As she is an Asian BLACK, I call her my Emo Chick. (Quit rolling your eyes. That's funny!)
I'm putting under her tonight, after midnight, 12 eggs of mixed heritage so her set will start officially on 01 October.
Egg #1...
I have my one emo, Xena, with eggs coming for her by Saturday. In the meantime, I have already moved her out of her flocks coop and into our mini run. I placed a milk crate inside of it, put down a rubber nesting pad, covered in pine shavings and tossed in her fake eggs. I put the nesting...
HI! I have a black Australorp who is 8 months old, she has been laying almost everyday for close to 2 months now. She is top pecking order. I have 4 birds total, all laying almost daily. The last couple days, she has been in the nest all day and all night last night. So today, I pulled her out...
My husband and I have been keeping chickens for a little over a year now and we finally had our first broody hen. She disappeared 4 days ago and after searching extensively we assumed she'd been taken by a hawk. Two days later we bought a batch of chicks to replenish our flock and while...
I have a 1.5 year old Easter Egger Bantum that is now on her fourth round of broodiness in 3 months. Each time I have banished her to chicken jail (dog kennel indoors with food and water only) for a few days. Each time this breaks her for a few weeks. During that time, she will return to daily...
Hello,
For the past 3 days my Black Australorp has been acting strange in her behavior and physical appearance. She lays in the nesting box for the entire day but is not laying eggs. I thought she was becoming broody as I experienced with my Rhode Island Reds, but with my Reds I was able to...
