Hello,
I live in California and I'm looking for some California Valley Quail....however I've searched everywhere and can't find anything....any recomendations?

EvieChickenGirl ❤️
Looking for juvenile valley quail, more interested in females, but will also consider another male.
I’m not asking for tame tame birds, but I don’t particularly want any that are too flighty or panicky. I have some I hand raised that are skittish but friendly, so trying to match with them (5...
I mostly need a place to share pictures of the sweet babies :lau
Two days ago one of my Valley quail successfully hatched two chicks. She still has other eggs and is using the nest so more may be on the way, but for now it's just the two.
This wasn't 100% planned (as in I don't know if the...
I recently purchased 33 (asked for 20 and was given LOTS of extras!) California Valley Quail hatching eggs, that are currently in my incubator. I’m using a Nuture Right 360, and I’ve got them set at 50/55% humidity and using my automatic turner. I’ve got it set for 23 days, lockdown on day 20...
I would love to get some California valley quail, but I had a few questions first. Could they be kept in a larger flock in an aviary? If so, would they be able to breed in there or do they need to be separated for that? Thanks in advance.
Side note- does anyone know if they count as game birds...
Hello Everyone, I hope you're all doing well!
I'm new to quail and birds in general, so I'm hoping to get a little bit of insight from others who may have faced a similar problem before.
I have a 4 month old California Quail who was hatched in an incubator after the nest was abandoned (the...
I was given a rescued newborn hatchling California quail. A neighbor kid watched it hatch and waited over an hour with no other hatchlings and no mom. They brought it to me as dark approached and it wouldn't make the night. I have 110 coturnix quail due to hatch out in the next two to three...
Hello all!
** Posted previously as part of our new member intro post and was directed to this forum so we are reposting here :) **
Recently we have adopted a few California valley quail who are laying like crazy but refuse to sit their eggs. We incubated several abandoned eggs for the first...
Hi Everyone!
Excited to finally be joining BYC! Our family farm has had a small flock of bantam hens (occasionally with some smaller standard breeds) for almost 26 years now. Our current flock consists of several new serama chicks, silkies, a gold penciled hamburg, a modern game, a fayoumi, a...
Hey friends!
I'm new to posting here, but not new to browsing around on occasion as farming/permaculture and rearing animals has been my long-time passion.
We have a tiny farm-yard currently, and are just saving up to build our actual farm on land we bought a while ago in Nova Scotia, Canada...
Hi everybody! I've read these forums for a while and I decided to make my own account so I may post and share my hatches. Thanks for taking the time to read this! Have a nice day! I mostly raise quail but I wanna get into Ayam cemani's one day. Here are some recent California valley quail eggs...
I keep Coturnix Quail, and just bought some Gambel Quail eggs. I know they’re flightier than coturnix and take the same food, but need answers to the following questions:
-When can I start to tell gender?
-How many eggs do they lay a year/do they usually sit on and incubate their own nests...
Hey y'all!
So...I was out in my front yard and I noticed a male quail sitting the a fence nearby. He was making noises so I just copied him and we had a nice little talk:D.
It got me thinking though... What are male quail called? Are they like...roosters? Or something else?
Hi guys! I just joined and I'm looking to get myself some quails. I live in California and I'm looking to get some fertile quail eggs, hatch and raise them. I only want them to keep as pets and for eggs and I'm looking at what would be appropriate for my area. We have three female Khaki Campbell...
Hi, ya'll,
My name is Erin, I’m a current grad student in the agricultural sciences department over here at Texas A&M Commerce. Part of our research involves trapping California Quail over in Idaho and translocating them back to Texas. We are required to test all the birds with the Pullorum...
Lockdown for my California quail eggs begins tomorrow. I've read about how shipped eggs sometimes survive until lockdown but still fail to hatch. Is this true, and is it because of damaged or detached air cells?
Should I cut out pieces of the egg carton they were shipped in to make little...
I have this incubator. When you put the eggs in lockdown, you remove the "incubation grid", and you set the eggs on their side on the "hatching grid" (see photo). You pour water in the bottom so that it can evaporate and provide humidity.
I have 5 California (Valley) quail eggs and it's day 17...
Hi all!
I bought 9 California (a.k.a. Valley) Quail eggs online. The seller told me which day they were laid - let's call this Day 0. Here's a timeline:
- Day 0: Eggs laid.
- Day 2: They were shipped (I have no idea what happened between Days 0 and 2, or whether they were incubated).
- Day...
Planning to build outdoor aviary for up to 10 California Valley quail. What dimensions are ideal in sq feet and height? Also, any recommendations to minimize risk of neck breaking due to startled flight?
