Hey everyone!
I wanted to gauge interest in a few things I would love to write about. I have a slow-paced job, so I have some time to really deep dive into some topics. I know some have already been written about, but it never hurts to have different perspectives. Please let me know if you guys...
Hello all! New emu owner here. We hatched 4 in May and we live in France. They are currently sheltered in a barn at night and have free range in our 150acre property during the day. They’re very, very tame and want to be with us at all times. We’re planning to fence the core of our property...
My husband and I are unexpectedly having to move, and with a short timeframe, he won't be able to build a coop/run like he did for our flock the first time. This makes me anxious, because what he built was a fortress that has kept my girls safe for going on 6 years.
The only pre-made coop/run...
Today, at about 8:40 PM, we heard our dog Shelby (who is tied at her doghouse when we can’t supervise her off leash, she isn’t fully trusted with chickens and can’t be indoors. She has been outdoors her whole life.) barking, and when I went out to look from the window, she was barking towards...

Hey, all.
Cool little story, picked up this coop back in 2014 on Craigslist in New Hampshire. Got my first chicks, stumbled through building a run, had a great flock for a few years in the New Hampshire winters. Pics attached.
Moved to New Jersey in 2017 and left the coop to the new owner...
So long story short-
As we move, We’ll be turning a pretty big shed into a temporary mini chicken-palace!
However, we’ll be a little bit away from the flock until we’re able to get a proper permanent coop set up with proper surveillance on them.
I was wondering if anyone knows if there’s such...
Hello, I’m not sure if this is the right spot for this question but I figured it was my best bet.
A while back I bought four straight run bantam chicks at my local feed store (complete impulse buy, they were very cute), and as luck would have it, all four ended up being roosters. I posted...
Hi there, I hope I'm following the proper guidelines on making a thread. If not, I'm sorry I'm new here :)
I have a question about the size of the box that I keep my duckling in. My concern is that it might be too small.
A little backstory; I don't keep ducks or other birds. I found the egg...
Hey! Happy Sunday!
Trying to finish up this coop today, the previous owners built it. My husband fixed the leaking roof & I cleaned it all out. Now on to questions:
1.) should we put chicken wire where the gaps are for more ventilation or use wood to predator proof? The front and back already...
Hi all,
I am new to Back Yard Chickens and looking for advice on my coop design.
I am just purchasing my property in the upcoming weeks and I'm going to be keeping egg layers. probably around 4-6
I'm looking for a design that would be movable like a tractor, however, once winter hits it...
I’m in the process of redesigning my coop. My family recently moved to a property with more land so we could homestead. During that time we built a temporary little coop for the birds but it is far from ideal. I’d like to build a new coop that has nice features and by that I mean little things...
Hello,
I know this is a long shot but we are being evicted and we don't have anywhere to go. We need land to park campers and put a chicken coop/ catio on for a month or 2. I have 5 teenagers some are going to stay with friends, some are staying with us. We will pay to rent the land and will...
In the summer of 2023 we tore down the old shed that we converted part of into our coop, and then we built a new shed/coop combo from the ground up.
The old coop worked, but the shed was here when we bought the house and it was beginning to show wear. It needed new siding, trim and doors, which...

Finally finished my coop this evening. Run is 20’x15’ and coop is 8’x8’ inside. Installed bird netting on top of run, A custom door my wife can open from the outside of the run, and super proud of my nesting boxes. Made them from the rough cut pine I had from tearing down a project in our...
My babies are almost ready to move into the coops! I realized I had 3 roos and set up a bachelor pad and small run for them. I have the big coop and enclosed run for the girls. I will be adding sand later his week when east Texas dries out.
Please let me know if I should change/add anything...
Hi - I have five silkies. Three are laying and two are still young at about 2 months. I have two Eglu Go coops. The three older ones usually go into one and the two younger ones are supposed to go into the second one. The younger ones just decided they wanted to integrate themselves into the...
