This is a long post! Sorry but I have a lot of info to share!
I posted a couple months ago about my two year old black copper Maran hen, Truffles, and her battle with sour/pendulous crop. I had gotten some good advice and have tried just about everything. She has had sour crop since Dec 2024...
I have an 8 week old chick whose crop does not empty in the mornings. I would say if it was 100% full in the evening, it empties about 30% overnight, so around 70% is still left in the mornings. I have withdrawn food overnight a few times to confirm this is what is happening.
In the mornings...
I've been posting on here for about a week now. My 5-month-old buff initially had what I believe was an impacted crop. The vet gave us a medication to assist with motility, gave the last dose last night. I believe it turned sour. It feels balloon-like and full of air, when I massage it makes...
I noticed my chicken had an impacted crop on Friday. I thought we were about past it earlier, the doctor gave us Cisapride to assist with crop motility. But now, I think she has sour crop. It’s like a balloon filled with air. I’m so worried because she hasn’t had the ability to eat much of...
Hello,
My hen has had a squishy crop since yesterday.
Today Her crop still has not empty. What could be going on? She is 7 months, lays eggs everyday and eats New Country Organics layer feed.
Any suggestions?
I have not see Her go poop. Her breath dose not smell sour or like vinegar
Today I noticed that my 4.5 y/o RIR has a massive crop, more than usual. I noticed it slightly swings left and right when she runs and, I dunno, just seems really big. It feels firm but with give--not hard or anything.
At what point should I worry or keep her from eating or drinking? I don't...
Big Bertha is a nearly 2 year old red sex link. Two days ago we noticed she wasn't really eating. Her crop was big and squishy and she was kind of burping and moving her neck funny. We checked her crop yesterday morning and it wasn't any smaller. When I picked her up, she spit out some brown...
We have noticed our hen wheezing for 2 days now. We were away for 4 days prior, so are unsure on the exact start date unfortunately.
She is wheezing with every breath, will not eat or drink since I have been closely watching her and she holds her head extended 99% of the time. She will also...
Here is my previous post about Val’s dog attack. The saga continues!
She’s been doing well after having her egg removed. Some feathers are growing back but the worst wounds are still healing and scabbed up. I’ve let her outside a few times in short visits to be a chicken, she seems good.
BUT...
My 3-4 year old hen, Rocky, has been having these issues for a long while. I thought it was a symptom of sour crop, so when I isolated her to reset her digestive system, she became more lively and a completely normal chicken. However, water, bits of food, and other stuff still spills from her...
Today I noticed that one of my 4 year old blue swedish ducks (Duck, is her name) doesn't want to eat and her crop is full looking and feels like there's a lot of liquid in it. She went to go eat and she kind of just touched the food with her bill, she's been drinking water and I haven't been...
Thank you for taking time to read this! I appreciate your help!
So 6 nights ago my 8 month old Ameracauna hen was leaking fluid from mouth when I "tucked her in". I brought her inside as the other hens were pecking on her.
Read for hours, then in the morning I incorporated my plan. I made her...
My 2.5 y/o Barred Rock didn't come out of the coop this morning, which was a red flag. Upon coaxing her out, I found her crop to be soft and swollen, and noticed her poops were a slimy yellowish-green. Here's some more info:
History: she had recently started slowing down laying this summer, and...
BACKGROUND: Hello. Back in September 2020, I posted about my very best chicken-friend, a now 2-year old EE named "Easter," who was on the brink of death from fighting egg yolk peritonitis. She had since miraculously recovered (miraculous with a long antibiotic treatment, crop massages...
Hi all. I read on the duck treat/food list that ducks can have Calf Manna which is flavored with anise b/c ducks, etc find that very tasty. I have a mallard that was rehabbed and released back in the area where he was injured. He was released 5 1/2 wks ago and we take him a snack once or twice a...
**I'm sharing this ongoing saga for two reasons: (1) to glean insights/experiences from others that might shed light on my EE's plight; and (2) to provide some insights to those experiencing similar issues.**
THE BROKEN THIN-SHELLED EGG AND CROP ISSUE: I've posted before about my 17 m/o Easter...
I've posted before about my poor, beloved EE, who after a few months of laying beautiful large blue eggs daily suddenly had issues with thin shelled and rubber eggs. Intermittent thin shelled eggs led to almost daily thin shelled eggs, with only a normal one every couple weeks (normal but still...
Hello BYC Community!
I have a Black Australorp hen who is around 4 years old and is having some issues. First, I noticed that she would move her neck around in a weird motion like she was trying to swallow something. She would do it for a minute and it would be a while later when she would do it...
So, I accidentally fed my baby chicks mealworms, corn, and other feed that wasn’t right for theor age. Now two of their crops are swollen and one of them is having trouble breathing. I don’t know what to do and I terrified of loosing these babies. :( Can someone PLEASE help me figure out what is...
