I’m taking care of this orphan chick that we found and we don’t know what breed or gender it is. We’ve been calling him a he but we’re not sure! I don’t even know if you can tell yet but maybe someone here can?
We found this chicken running around and decided it would be better to put it in our Currently empty coop until we decided who’s it was.
I’m new to chickens and I have only three silkies. Two are roosters so I didn’t want to add the found one to the pack as I am not sure if this is another...
(I'm dumb and posted this to the chicken sexing forum instead of the one for ducks, and I don't know how to delete my thread so I can move it; I'm sorry.)
Is Twisty a boy or a girl? He is the one making the raspy whistle sound (sorry about all the conflicting duck sounds, this was their first...
Hey everyone, I’m new to the chicken world! This is my 8 week “Ameraucana pullet” per Tractor Supply, but I know they’re often falsely sold under this breed name and 10% can be roosters. Personality-wise it has become more stand-off-ish recently versus my other chicks, and it’s the largest in my...
Two of my Buff Orpingtons are nine weeks, the other two are seven weeks. My blue copper Marans is also seven weeks. Are we still thinking they are all ladies? Thanks everyone!
Hello,
When I was a kid my family raised a lot of chickens as pets, (like flocks of 40-60 at a time). I just bought my first home with my husband and son and thought it would be great to get a few back yard chickens. My husband and I went out and got these two chicks. We were told they were...
I have 6 lavender orpingtons, 9 weeks old now. My fear is only one is a girl. I cannot care for 6 rooster. Number 5 was uncooperative. What do you think, only one hen or is their any hope for the others?
Hello everybirdie,
Technically it doesn’t matter as we’re going to confirm with the vet tomorrow, but I was curious on your thoughts first.
This is my baby “fantail”/homer. I’m 89% sure she’s a girl, but just as my first pigeon, she’s fiesty and flirts like a boy. Actually, even moreso than my...
I bought this one along with 7 others- 4 SLW and 4 Barred rock. This one is by far the lightest (and smallest) but it’s comb isn seeming to be the most red. They were Born about 7/7 so it may be too early to tell. Help is appreciated. Thank you.
Hey everybody, attached are photos of Moe, an 18-week-old chicken. Is it normal for its wattles to be barely visible? Does that just mean it's a late-blooming hen? And can anybody identify the breed (I think it's a cross-breed; I wanted to know the breeds of its parents).
Thank you!
I am reposting with some better pictures. The breeder told me all girls but one, but one was iffy. They are all getting big combs @ 5 weeks. I posted some pictures yesterday and they were pretty unanimously boys. But I took some better pictures today.
my buff cochin and ss crossed chicks are a little over 7 weeks old now. they’re doing very well, and eating nicely. however, i’m confused as to what they are lol. chick number 1 appears to be a cockerel, while 2, 3, and 4 appear to be pullets. or so i thought. 3 and 4’s posture has me confused...
as anyone would be, im incredibly curious about the breeds of my babies & i’m not too sure what to look for when it comes to finding out about genders and such. they should be 16/17 weeks now i’m assuming & have not started to lay yet, but im sure that they will soon when they are ready. the man...
Hi all,
my family and I are new Chicken owners and we got 3 free chickens (1 rooster 2 hens) from our neighbour about 4 months ago when they were around 3-4 months (so our neighbour said). They were good for about 1- 2 months and then the hens started to crow and fight with each other. We...
Hi I'm new to BYC and needed help identifying 2 of my chickens. The backstory is I ordered hatching eggs from my pet chicken and they gave me a sheet with codes so I can tell what chicks might hatch from the eggs I bought. I bought a random mix and 4 chicks hatched. I'm positive I have 2 cochins...
We're thinning our flock of 16 down to just 6. We have new homes arranged and would prefer to hand off roos (keeping only ladies in tune with city ordinance.)
Any best guesses here would be greatly appreciated!
I've attached 2 images of some...others aren't so cooperative in their posing. :)
We have a joke in the household now that our chicken breeder sold us a pigeon. So we tried picking up another Silkie to join our flock, and although this bird has some Silkie, I have no idea what else she could be? The breeder's "Silkie" laying chickens hardly looked Silkie themselves. Hopefully...
