I have a hen that has some wacked out looking tail feathers compared to the rest. I caught one of my other hens just… gently chewing on her tail? Nothing malicious or anything… just… odd…?
(Hen on the left is the chewer, while hen in the middle is the chewee)
Hey guys! I’ve been growing chickens for basically my entire life but I’ve never seen this before.
One of my chicks head is extremely dirty. I have 12 total 11 are about a week old from tractor supply and 1 is 12 days old that was born in my coop.
However one of the chicks I’ve gotten from...
This thread is for anything dog (or I guess cat? LOL) grooming related!!!! I know some people here are really into grooming so I thought I would make a grooming thread. You can share before and after pics, tips, products, whatever you want related to grooming and within BYC rules. Thanks...
I don’t know if this fits on this thread, but there wasn’t a category specifically for feather care/ grooming.
My Silkie hen is 4 years old, going on 5 by next May. She’s perfectly healthy, but can’t seem to reach her vent to groom her butt. It’s to the point that she gets irritated by the...
I have one Salmon Faverolles hen. She's the only chicken I've had with a beard and feathered feet, and it just seems like she's always uncomfortable and dirty compared to my other chickens. Her beard and feet are always encrusted with dirt, and I'm constantly having to clean her bottom. I...
Hi everybody!
This year I started a small flock of ducks. I have a magpie duck and she is just the sweetest girl. Definitely my nicest and most well behaved bird, she's also my best layer. Her only issue is that her grooming habits are AWFUL. Her face is always so dirty and caked with dirt. As...
My year-old Mille Fleurs d'Uccle, Marigold, is molting, and I occasionally see her companion, Kate, a Sebright, plucking feathers from the edge of the molting area. Is this normal grooming behavior?
Thanks!
Hello! We have an 8 month old Mini Australian Shepard who is in desperate need of a brushing. However, if we even show him one of his brushes, he immediately bares his teeth and backs away. We try to brush him and he nips us. This sweet, perfect puppy becomes extremely aggressive if we brush him...
This is David my Muscovy drake, he's a year old now. His feathers look disgusting, not smooth and soft like the girls and he stinks of preening oil. Is this the norm?
Here's a Pic of him and the pen he lives in with his girls.
Hello! First I want to say, thank you all for this website and all your input! I have been getting help from this site since I started keeping birds a few years ago, so thank you!
This is my first time posting and asking for help. I work at the feed store, and we had some ducklings that came...
my 7 week old got some poop on her feathers. i tried cleaning her up a bit with a cloth but it still stinks. would a small bath be okay? or will a dust bath be able to fix it?
My chickens recently got attacked by a hawk, they're both fine but very stressed. They haven't left their coop since. They lost feathers in the attack and so I didn't really look into their feathers thinking out. I saw Pearl grooming her wing and a feather came loose and she kept grooming till...
I have an EE hen who is currently in treatment for leg mites. Because of this, she has been dust bathing and preening a lot, and with now the dirt is piling up on her breast feathers like crazy! While I was soaking her legs in some warm water I attempted to dampen these feathers and see if I...
No more mud! She's all shampooed, dried, fluffed and looking marvelous. The color is a super gentle shampoo and because she's so white, it takes a few drops of red to turn her completely pink! Anybody know how to get the stains out of the top puff? I didn't want to scrub that close to her eyes. ???
