Hen chewing on other chickens tail feathers?

I have a hen that has some wacked out looking tail feathers compared to the rest. I caught one of my other hens just… gently chewing on her tail? Nothing malicious or anything… just… odd…? (Hen on the left is the chewer, while hen in the middle is the chewee)

Tips for washing a Silkie hen’s bottom?

I don’t know if this fits on this thread, but there wasn’t a category specifically for feather care/ grooming. My Silkie hen is 4 years old, going on 5 by next May. She’s perfectly healthy, but can’t seem to reach her vent to groom her butt. It’s to the point that she gets irritated by the...

Keeping Faverolles (and other bearded/feathered-food breeds) clean

I have one Salmon Faverolles hen. She's the only chicken I've had with a beard and feathered feet, and it just seems like she's always uncomfortable and dirty compared to my other chickens. Her beard and feet are always encrusted with dirt, and I'm constantly having to clean her bottom. I...

Do hens groom their molting companions?

My year-old Mille Fleurs d'Uccle, Marigold, is molting, and I occasionally see her companion, Kate, a Sebright, plucking feathers from the edge of the molting area. Is this normal grooming behavior? Thanks!

    Dog Grooming

Hello! We have an 8 month old Mini Australian Shepard who is in desperate need of a brushing. However, if we even show him one of his brushes, he immediately bares his teeth and backs away. We try to brush him and he nips us. This sweet, perfect puppy becomes extremely aggressive if we brush him...

Do mature muscovy drakes always look this gross?

This is David my Muscovy drake, he's a year old now. His feathers look disgusting, not smooth and soft like the girls and he stinks of preening oil. Is this the norm? Here's a Pic of him and the pen he lives in with his girls.

    Grooming out feathers?

My chickens recently got attacked by a hawk, they're both fine but very stressed. They haven't left their coop since. They lost feathers in the attack and so I didn't really look into their feathers thinking out. I saw Pearl grooming her wing and a feather came loose and she kept grooming till...

    Clean & Beautiful

No more mud! She's all shampooed, dried, fluffed and looking marvelous. The color is a super gentle shampoo and because she's so white, it takes a few drops of red to turn her completely pink! Anybody know how to get the stains out of the top puff? I didn't want to scrub that close to her eyes. ???
