Ok, so I took advice from other websites that have said to have humidity between 50-60%. I've read here not to have it go above 55% and now it's teetering at 60%ish. I've tried lowering the humidity (I think it got too high because I turned the heat on in the room) How affected are my chicks...
Hello! I am on day 4 of incubation. I live in the midwest and cannot get my humidity levels below 62%. This is my first time incubating. I have 36 eggs. I have NO water in the incubator, vents are open, and I have tried putting a paper towel in there, a sponge, and rice in a sock with no...
Hey guys,
I’m trying to make a hatching plan (first timer so I’m a little nervous). I’ve been doing a lot of research and am confident about my temperature knowledge but there’s so many mixed opinions on humidity out there so I thought I’d ask you pros on BYC. What percentage of humidity do you...
Hi guys,
I've recently put my eggs into lockdown (stopped turning them and whacked the humidity up to 60)
however, I did this on day 16 as I read somewhere that bantams can hatch on day 18....basically today is day 18 and I don't think they are going to hatch, after reading multiple different...
Hi Everyone,
I am hatching from an incubator for a the first time, a little giant, and I am now at day 21. Currently the eggs are still and no pips, so I decided to water candle(early, I know, my nerves just couldn’t handle it). Of the 40 eggs everyone seems very alive except 4 still eggs and 1...
First time incubating (Coturnix quail). Too late, I obtained other hygrometers to test humidity levels and found that built-in incubation hygrometer was way off (probably cause it was stuck). I've read info on humidity levels and seen lots of discussion on it in forums, but haven't yet found...
I am new to the forum, and in my reading I see many people losing eggs in the last few days. I have my first batch of incubator eggs hatching March 16th 2019 and now I am worried. I candled the eggs and everyone seems to be alive and well. We are now in the final 3 days and I don’t want to lose...
I recently made my own incubator and I currently have 12 fertile eggs sitting in it. The first 3/4 days I couldn’t quite get the gauges perfect. The temperature was always between 35-40 and the humidity was around 30-40 percent. It is now stabilized at 37 degrees and 50 percent humidity. I can...
Hello,
I’m new to this forum and to poultry keeping and I would like to keep quail, starting with fertile eggs and an incubator.
I’m currently researching incubators and I’m not sure if I need one that automatically regulates humidity, they seem quite a lot more expensive than those that don’t...
Hello Backyard Chicken Folk!
Well, we have almost made it to lockdown with 9 Silkie Eggs. Temps in the Genesis have been inconsistant but ive been watching it close and making sure it stays within range. The problem is the Bator thermostat is off, so im monitoring with 3 other thermometers that...
I set 5 eggs in my incubator on Monday at 5:30pm, and I candled then last night, after reading how you should see veins in 2-3 days...but I didn’t see anything.
Now I’m worried that they died or never started growing because of humidity. I always watch the humidity when I’m home, but when I’m...
I don’t know if I’m posting in the right thread or whatever because I’m new here so feel free to correct me. I recently got a Janoel 24 incubator and put 4 eggs in it. One is leghorn one is a amber link and I don’t know what the rest are but they all are fertilized by the same silkie rooster...
Hi all!
I've been using this forum as an information resource for a long time, but I need some help that I can't seem to find answers for so far.
I'm in the process of trying to set up an incubator I made myself following various tutorials. Classic styrofoam cooler. 25 watt bulb, air vents but...
I forgot the best humdity for serama hatchin. So far I've seen 50-55 and 65 on hatch day but that seems way to much.
I think last time I did 15-20% and 30% lockdown. And that worked great j just dont remember the last time I hatch ed d seram eggs was well over a year ago I've had broodies do it...
Hatching Chickens can be a fun and educational experience for the entire family. How cool is it to watch a small egg turn into a tiny life! And of course when these chicks grow up, your understanding of chickens and their life cycle can be quite rewarding, something you will never forget. So how...
This is like my 5th or 6th try. I'm on day 10 and by the chart my eggs are at like day 3-4. My temp. is steady at 99-100. The humidity is between 35-45 ambient. No water in the incubator.

There are some newer incubators online that not only have thermostat with heating element for temperature control, but also a humidistat with ultasonic fog generator for humidity control. Does anybody have one and are they worth the extra expense?
