I have a pair of chocolate Maran pullets which look almost identical, I’d like to give them leg bands to tell them apart more easily but being Marans, they have lightly feathered legs. Does anyone know of a type of ring that would be suitable for feathered legs or some other alternative?
A common practice among poultry keepers is to use zip ties to distinguish between baby fowl, particularly when they have multiple breeds of the same age with similar coloring.

Hi!
So I've been searching far and wide for affordable and safe leg bands for my ducks, mainly my one mallard who could be mistaken for injured wildlife if she for some reason walked off after hopping the fence.
When I got my first duck, she had like 4 zip ties on her foot and I cut them off...
Hello again everyone, once I start breeding Nankin Bantams I want to keep them banded for shows and easy genetic ID. Like little numbered metal ones is what I want. So what kind do all of you use?
*I don't know what there made of actually, it really doesn't matter*.
Thank you!
Today I noticed my easter egger limping around so when the chickens went to bed for the night I caught her and discovered the plastic leg band on her had somehow ridden up too high on her leg and has grown into the leg itself. It's really deeply embedded...
I cleaned the leg as best I could...
Hi All,
A friend of mine and I are looking to start a quail breeding project at our college's farm (we originally planned on chickens, but as quail are ready to reproduce so much earlier we switch to Coturnix quail). We would like to be able to chart an individual's growth so we need some way...
3 week old duckling suspected splayed leg. Hobbles but will still put weight on the leg, when sat down leg is pushed behind the body and never under the body. Initially suspected a niacin deficiency but 2 weeks on supplements and no real improvement, finally attempted to splint the leg however...

Hi Guys!!
I am hatching out chicks and would like some ideas for banding their legs for identification purposes as well as if someone buys one I can band it for pick up.
I need something that is easy on / easy off.
I checked amazon, but there are mixed reviews and I don't know what the best...
We have two hens with a vet wrap leg warmer/leg band to mark them after injuries earlier in the year. I like vet wrap for this because it's flexible and seems to do less damage to their legs compared to other bands I've used in the past.
Fast forward to winter and I've noticed one hen who has...
Hi to everyone,
I'm new to the forum, but have been a regular visitor to the site over the past year.
We have a few bantam chickens and have had a lot of problems with predators and insects killing off our young (mostly dogs, cats, snakes, and ants - the ants are the most difficult to keep out)...
I'm keeping quail as pets, and I got them from a farm, but the eggs all hatched the exact same quail witht he exact same coloration? How would I tell the difference between them(sorry, i dont have leg bands), like if one is prone to ticks or has diarrhea or something? I'm looking for a way to...
A week or so ago I noticed that one of my birds, who is about 6 to 8 weeks old was walking funny. I tried moving the tendon back with my finger but that didnt work. It appeared to be a splayed leg. I used a rubber band and put the legs closely together... I checked on it every day. No real...
My silkie chicks are 17 days old today and so I decided to start banding them for breeding and show purposes.
I use colored zip ties on the left leg to show which breeding stock they came from and left plenty of room for growth without too much for a concern with snagging. I will be closely...
