I have a four day old buff orpington. Day 1 and 2 she was active, drinking, and pooping, no signs of pasty butt. Day 3 she became very lethargic. She slept most of the day and barely got up when you would touch her. She would get up, but then go back to sleep a moment later. She was still moving...
Hey all,
I was wondering when chicks outgrow pasty butt? Mine are a few weeks old and they don't have it anymore....as far as I know. Do they grow out of it that soon? (I hope so)
Thanks,

Hi all,
I just got 6 chicks about a week ago. One of them (marshy) has what is called pasty butt. (I think) It is a real bad one. (I think....again.) Can someone tell me what to do? I read that if I just leave it the chick might die.

Thanks so much!
I got 10 Leghorns and 5 Isa Browns from Hoover Hatchery on Friday. 2 Isa Browns were doa, dead on arrival. 1 was struggling, it past away later that day, Saturday another one started to struggle, it past way too. Now my last Isa Brown "Autumn" is struggling. She had a pasty bottom, so I cleaned...
Anyway to prevent baby chicks from getting pasty butt? I was going to get some chicks about a week old but I realized a lot of them that young seem to get it so I guess I'll wait and get some older.
I hate it and a won't use it for chicks under 2 weeks old. Couldn't control pasty butt in my chicks. Never had that problem with heat lamps. Than I realised their drinking water wasn't staying warm like baby chicks need it to be..went back to heat lamps for first 2 weeks. No more pasty butt.
Hi, I am a happy hen housewife. I have been wanting chickens for a long time. My daughter in law is a school teacher and they hatched some chickens at her school. So when they were 2 weeks old she called me and asked, " do you still want chickens?' Of course I did!! She said i have to bring them...
My dad and I went to tractor supply earlier this year. We don't have a coop built or started, and we don't have any supplies either. The only thing we had was a plastic tub for a brooder box. He decided time to get everything for chicks and the chicks. Inside Tractor Supply we grab what we need...
I’m a new mom to 12 chicks. One is a barred Cochin that’s about 4 days old and agressive. It runs up and pecks at me. Is this a Roo? Is there something I can do to make it more friendly.
Also I have a silky w a pasty butt! Help! Can I wash it’s butt and then blow dry it? How do I get this...
Hi all,
I got my first ever chicks and one of them has pasty butt. I read on how to move the poop to open the vent again, but it seems when I gently rub with a towel it only temporarily solves the problem.. until she poops again, clogging herself up. How do I get rid of all this excess poo...
Hello!! I have four 2 1/2 week old chicks in a brooder. The buff brahma, Mo, has a swollen vent and it appears to be wet around it, maybe like she had diarrhea. The other 3 don't have anything wrong. Mo had pasty butt the first night I brought her home but that was reversed the same night and...
this is my "10 week old" barred rock chick (my guess is roo) it seems to have a wetness on the underside, maybe from laying in poo or is it something serious? What is your guess this is?
I have a weak / sick week old Golden Campine that I am trying to save. I found him in the brooder yesterday getting knocked around and with his head cocked to the side, after being really robust in the days leading up. He had pasty butt (a few of the chicks did earlier in the week too), which...
Guys something is definitely wrong with one of my 6-day-old babies. Please read this all the way through, and anyone who has experienced this with their chicks or knows maybe what's wrong, please reply ASAP.
So, when we got our chicks, the two D'uccles were a little messy. A simple case of...
I'm really worried about one of my new D'uccle chicks. We've raised plenty of chicks, and I've had my fair share of pasty butt. We always treat it the same way, and it usually works just fine. But Marguerite (my porcelain baby) has been having pasty butt over and over and over. We clean her off...
I’m concerned for my 2 week old salmon favorelle. She suffered a foot injury at 3 days old but seems to be doing fine. I briefly separated her from 2 other chicks and momma hen because if the injury and she is almost half their size but she seems fiesty and way happier with her family. Now to...
Hi Y'all,
I'm new to this, so please forgive if I'm making newbie mistakes. I picked up my chicks this morning and have already had to clean a pasty butt. The same chick, a Wyandotte baby, is also self-pecking and pulling out wing fluff. Is this normal, if not, any tips on what to do?
Thanks a...
