I got two Lavender Orpingtons at a local feed store (they only order females from a couple of big hatcheries)
One really has the feather shredding going on ( I don’t mind it I’m just a backyard enthusiast) it’s very difficult to determine if they are male or female
They’re almost 14 weeks...
I attained these Black Australorps on April 18th, 2024. They were a few days old. I've had/have this breed previously, but only hens. I've noticed some drastic changes in this new group, and am curious if I've got a few cockerels among the four pictured here. They developed combs and waddles...
I have 4 Wyandotte mixed pullets that are looking for a new home. They are 8 weeks old and healthy. They are $6 each.
The chicks have the "Golden Columbian Wyandotte" markings and colorations.
Both parent breeds are dual purpose birds. Both great egg laying breeds. The eggs will be a light...
Hello everyone,
Im very excited to write that we are picking up our 3, 6 week old polish chicken pullets tomorrow. We are driving 4.5 hours up to the mountains of NC to get them and 4.5 hrs back. I had a few questions as a new chicken owner.
1. The mountains are about 10 degrees cooler than we...
Hi everyone, I posted a thread a few weeks ago about dealing with some respiratory issues with a few of my bantam Cochin pullets, and the good news is they have gotten better from that. Two of them are totally back to normal and are back with the rest of the flock after being treated with...
We have three chicks (jubilee orpington, salmon faverolle, and barred rock) from a local hatchery, and we feel pretty confident that they are all pullets as they all conform to what pullets of those breeds should look like. We also have a random fourth chick that was hatched in one of my kid's...
Hi folks, I’ve got two new hens, one Easter Egger and a cream legbar the E.E has been laying well, but the Cream Legbar hasn’t yet, but she has been sitting down a lot outside ever since we got her just sitting not on eggs or anything just sitting down whilst everyone else is looking for bugs...
We were told these were Easter eggers however the lack of a muff and the larger single comb is throwing me off.
They are showing more and more color every day, two of them (2,3) with a predominant gray overcast with the splash. One of them (2) has some faint speckles of red. (3) is showing...
I have two month old pullets, all have been fully feathered for several weeks. All except for this one. We just got through treating a nasty scab on her back from her picking at herself (hence the purple stain, thanks Blu-Kote). Now her feathers are finally coming in there, but they look…...
Hello there! Brand new to BYC and brand new (IMPATIENT) chicken mama. I am not allowed to have roos where I am located, so I want to figure them out ASAP so they can go to a lovely, new coop / family! :p
I have 6 chicks I got from TSC from pullet bins on March 10th, but you know how reliable...
Hey Everyone! I've been researching sexing Black Australorps and I'm at all loss here, so I'm hoping someone might have experience with this breed and help me out :)
We added to our flock this year and I was so excited to find Black Australorps at our local feed store. They were supposed to be...
I’ve posted my sweet Delawares a couple times at different ages. They’re roughly 11 weeks old now and I REALLY want to finally give them names 😁
What does everyone think?
Hey there! I have a 6 week old Blue Laced Red Wyandotte chick. First time raising this breed. Does it look like a cockerel or pullet? It stands upright a lot and herds other chicks. Its neck feathers are still coming in. Any chance it could be a female?
We have two lavender Orphingtons, this one we are on the fence on if it’s a Roo or a Hen? Almost 7 weeks old. Any thoughts? Or characteristics to look out for with this breed in the coming weeks? Thanks for the input!
We will continue to wait until we hear a crow and then will have to find this...
