so i've noticed that a lot of people use improper housing for buttons and tell others to use the same type as well, so i thought i'd share a bit of info from personal experiences.
there are a few "rules" you have to tick off before housing your button quail
1 - sizing - does it have enough...
I have a very elderly male quail (he is about 6 years old) who recently lost his two, equally elderly, companions.
Since then he's been calling and crowing constantly and I'm certain he's very lonely, however at his age I don't want to get any new birds and I doubt he would survive the stress...
My quail recently got in an accident and hit her head off the floor causing her to get a wry neck. I am so worried. But now she's gone worse. I've been feeding her and helping her drink but now she refuses to eat and drink. She also cannot walk which I found very sad and researched it online...
So my eggs are about 11 days old I think. This is my first time, and I'm afraid am doing it wrong. It come to my attention from a Facebook group that I should be concerned about the air pocket in these eggs. I'm supposed to have a pointy side down. So I took what I have and put them back into...
I finally got my incubator in today. And now I want to buy eggs but having an issue finding someone who is NPIP certified and willing to a sale less than 8 quail eggs. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions? Thank you.
Hello people of Backyard Chickens. I have one elderly (>3 y.o.) quail hen, Tsapa, who is left after her flock-mates passed away. I can't continue the cycle of getting new quails, so Ill take care of Tsapa and that'll be that. My concern is that she seems lonely: isn't active, doesn't eat salad...
So I have a baby quail that hatched yesterday, I noticed it was not walked like it should be while letting it dry but instead it was dragging itself with its wings. All my other quail are happy and normal but this little guy has one leg way longer than the other, only really uses the shorter...
Does anyone have advice on getting my button broody like lighting, diet, cage etc. right now it’s a pair in a twenty gallon long tank and she’s been laying consistently. The cage has a sand bath and fake plants but when I tried a nest box (old finch nest box) and she didn’t use it.
Hello wise ones. I have a lovely little quail. I think it was shrink wrapped. I noticed it piping 2 days ago, when it still hadn’t emerged today, I broke it free, carefully of course.
Something isn’t right. At first I thought it was wry neck, but it feeds well and easily. I’m feeding it...
Hey guys I have a question about some of my quail chicks so what they will do is close their eyes and kinda stand up with their heads down I have them in a plastic container with paper towels as bedding and water with electrolytes and probiotics and a heat lamp I was just wondering if I was...
I recently brought home a few quails ( a week ago) but now one of them has fallen sick. They were fed layer feed, so I continued feeding them that, and as for age, they were all a little less than a year old.
3 days ago I noticed one of the hens acting lethargic and drinking A LOT of water. I...
Hello everyone! I have 3 male button quail, one of which I would really like to breed. I was considering purchasing a few Coturnix Celadon quail and trying to cross breed them. Does anyone know if this would be possible? I'm open to trying to cross breed him with other breeds as well. Please let...
My quail turn 5 weeks old today and my mom texted me while I was at work to say that one of them was chasing the others around and wouldnt let them rest. I got home and sure enough, one of them was chasing the others round and round in the enclosure. I watched for a while and saw him try to...
I have never seen anyone feed quail grit but I plan to feed them more food scraps hopefully soon and I'm wondering, do they need or benefit from grit? Do they have a crop like chickens? Thx,
Hi!
I'm very new to quail, I purchased a dozen hatching eggs from a local, reputable hatchery, listed as assorted coturnix quails. Out of 12, 10 hatched and 1 passed the day after hatching who happened to have spraddle legs.
They hatched May 17th and all but one are doing very well in the...
I’ve got a Gambel’s quail here, maybe 2 days old. It was in my yard brought by a local outdoor cat so I’ve got no idea where it came from and we haven’t seen any quail wandering around our neighborhood at all these past few months.
I went to a nearby nature center (it’s like 5 minutes away by...
I live in an area that in winter drops below freezing (to the teens to even the negatives sometimes) and rises in summer to the 90's. I am wondering if I keep them in a draft-free enclosure could they live outdoors? What about feeding? Eggs per year? Also, what about keeping them with Coturnix...
Hi all! I plan on getting another bird, like a parakeet or other type, would that be problematic for my quail? Would he feel less lonely? I want my quail to be happy and less lonely but until I have enough money for another female quail, he’s all alone. If I house them separately will that be...
