Awesome! The horse I rode was a fart. I was annoyed till the instructor handed me a beautifully long whip, that really got his butt in gear! Yeehaw! He started moving off my leg, listening to my aids...it was cool.

I love it when you can wake up a normally lazy horse and they're super amazing to ride.

My gelding, Google, is kinda lazy sometimes. However, I will never touch him with a dressage whip because he will be wired for the rest of the ride, and very tense and nervous. There was one time when I had a chance to speak with his previous owner... she told me that she hired her neighbor to feed her horses one day and unblanket them. Well, Google wasn't letting her take the blanket off, so she did some ' natural horsemanship' crap she saw on TV and chased him around the field with a whip!!! He is a nervous boy because of his previous abuse (not from lady I met!) and I can't imagine how much that must have terrified him. That being said, he is ok with a jumping crop... I have to use one a lot... lol. But I don't use dressage whips ( and mine is really pretty <3).

I've never actually used a crop.

I've ridden Western for most of my riding life, and that's not used there, obviously.

That's terrible about poor Google, though.

LOL.
I always carry a crop when jumping, and usually when trail riding. It's not like I am mean, but it definetely helps if a horse is going to stop. Then you don't create bad habits, which eventually leads to the horse being better about everything.
smile.png

Yeah, it really is. * sigh* He's come a long ways though. My end goal is that he will be able to teach a younger person, like 10 or 11 year old.

Yeah, I don't believe that they're really cruel unless you misuse them.

Yeah. It's annoying when people who don't know anything about horses say oh this and that is soooo cruel when it is just helping teach them bad habits and may not be needed later on. Plus, if a horse has good habits he/she has a better chance, if sold lot's, of staying off a slaughter truck.

Definitely! I also hate when people don't know how to use tools like that, though. When they jerk on the reins with a strong bit, etc. Apparently, on my school's eq team, some girl with western spurs on kicked her horse so hard in gaming that she left a small open cut! But, "He was okay." I don't think that's okay to physically cut or bruise the horse intentionally.

Yeah, it's annoying. Use harsh spurs and bits if you need them, but don't abuse them.
One time my mom was volunteer vetting at a driving event and this one lady came in with slightly bloody whip marks on her pair of horses. The vets and I were so mad. I think she got this 'red card' thing for it. To be honest I don't know all that much about driving.

I don't, either, but I can guess it'll be visible when she enters later competitions... Hopefully, if that's possible.
