I see. I wouldn't necessarily say pawning off, unless she is inexperienced. I got an OTTB last month who had never done anything but race. I'm training him, and he is doing quite well.

Sometimes they do misbehave in the gate, unfortuanately. My friend exercises, and she was riding one that tried to flip over, then dropped itself to the ground and tried to go UNDER the gate. She was perfectly fine though, just being spastic
If she runs that horse hard though, THAT would have been a major contributor. -.- hah. I'm not gonna rant on that.
Plus slipping in a hole

my trainer's horse did that. He was an international level horse, lots of class... But he injured his tendon when he slipped. We were never able to bring him back to the international level :\
He broke his right front left and his left hind leg. Because he tripped in a hole. Trotting. That's so sad, I was riding my mare Haley a couple months ago and she went way down in a post hole on one back leg, we're so lucky she's alright! There was really nothing they could have done for him, two broken legs, it's a good thing she gave him a triple dose of bute by accident.

I would say pawning off, she's 15, had a couple horses before him (I think they were also off the track QHs), but still. She's no trainer, and she has anger issues. I don't think she's really done any training of any sort with him, but I could be wrong.

I remember her hitting that horse like crazy, I mean, I've seen her punch him. He still loved her, though. I know a lot of the anger is because of a condition she has, so I can't blame her too much.

Yes, I hate it, she would get in an arena and get him off running and just running, nothing else for a long time. It always scared whatever horse I was on, so annoying. -__- She had gotten spurs since she was having trouble getting him to run, maybe it was because it actually hurt him. /: She was also training him for barrels. He was really tender-footed, always had shoes on, and his pink boots. He tripped all over the place every time we would get off of the road.

Well, I can only hope that bite didn't get him a bellyache before he was euthanized. Thats away too much bute.
Well then, that's fair I suppose. I guess I get kinda defensive about racehorses because I work with them and their trainers and they are really, really well cared for. you can't even imagine. But I know every trainer isn't like the one I work for,
Good way to sour a horse. I can't stand people hitting horses. If you need horses to do something, they will almost always do it if you just ask! Or if they don't understand, TEACH them. Grr.
The reason he tripped would have been because he was used to a flat racetrack surface. You have to teach them self- awareness through lots of walking and trotting trail rides. My horse trips a lot too, he just hasn't learned to pay attention to where he puts his feet yet.
It's sad anyhow, and not the horses fault. Nor, I suppose, the girls. It's unfortuanate that his life prior to that wasn't amazing though.

I dunno, the vet said it was probably good for him in the long run, they hauled him several hours up to another vet. Yeah, she just didn't know, someone gave her a full thing of it, and she just gave him the entire 12 grams.

I had a TB mare, she was registered, but she was sold to an auction, when she had like, just been taken from her foal, and we think it was because she had a problem producing milk, when she had her foal when we had her, she barely had a bag, and when we got her she still had milk and it had been months since she was picked up by a friend of mine at an auction. She was also very very poor. I'm sorry if it gave me a sort of down opinion about race people.

Oh, she'd had him for years.

Oh, he did have a good life. She treated that horse like gold, worried to death over him some days, she really was a good owner. When she almost got thrown off of her dad's horse at a 4-H meeting, she didn't call for her dad, she went straight to Cash.

Okay, first of all does anyone here keep their horses in a pasture at all times? If so, do your horses try to kill you when you bring up feed!!!?? I was feeding our horses yesterday, and they come right up to you and it's like they corner you and won't let you out!!!!

I bring a distraction bucket along so I can give them a bit of feed to distract them so I can at least get up to their shed. :D Just thought I might share that with you.

All of mine stay out 24/7 unless I am going somewhere with them. If I am leaving in the wee hours I sometimes stall them the night before. At a show or camping ect. I stall them. My horses do not crowd me, I have taught them to stay out of MY SPACE.... And they cannot be a bully about food.
