The term 'furry', in this case, is very broad.
Someone who says they are furry is generally expressing an interest in anthropomorphic animals and/or creatures (and perhaps some affiliation to the furry fandom itself). They may express that that interest in a variety of ways - through art and through stories, or through roleplay and performance. How deep or meaningful an interest in Furry is varies greatly from person to person. Some feel that it is merely a character modeled off of oneself that is an anthropomorphic animal, while others may feel that it is a part of them.
People with a fetish like such usually go to 'Furcons', a convention for 'Furries' where you go and visit with other like-minded people and dress in 'Fursuits'; a personalized suit of fur worn for this occasion.
Me? I'm nowhere near as obsessed as the latter, I simply have an anthropomorphic character. Though I'm not a die-hard fan that engages in the above activities, I am still lumped into the category of 'Furry'.
The fandom is really quite fascinating.
wow, a much better explination than me
i want a fursuit
but they are expensive.
i'm more into the fandom, i'd rather be an anthro than a human
