«We Could Be Legends»

"It's fine," Indigo said, studying her nails. She often did that after using her abilities, almost as though she could see that the power had been released. "Little Toby." She released his hand and patted him on the head.

His eyes narrowed. “L-little Toby? Is that how we’re going to play this? Ok then, big Indigo,” he paused, looking panicked. “S-sorry, that didn’t come out right. That sounded really rude and offensive, I’m so-“ he was abruptly silenced as Indigo pat him on the head. He crossed his arms wincing, his face souring. “Oh, so I’m a dog now? Great.“ he grumbled.

Indigo’s smile grew wider. Pat pat.
”Nope. You're just my little brother.” She twirled away. ”Little Toby!” she sang.

Toby frowned. Being pat on the head was starting to really make him uncomfortable. “Calling me little is bad enough, but if you start doing other condescending short person things, like picking me up or using me as an armrest, we’re going to have some problems.” Toby said. He watched her dance away, trying to hide his smile. “You’re adorable.” He said.

Toby smiled, looking down at Alpha’s leash as he twisted it around his hands. He then realized the leash wasn’t attached to anything, and Alpha’s collar was gone. The key. It targets metal. He remembered. His hand flew to his neck, frowning as his necklace was no longer there. “Well that’s just great.” Toby grumbled.
He grabbed the handle of Alpha’s vest and tied one end of the leash to it, tying the other end loosely to his belt buckle.

"Good improvising," Indigo said. All that was left of the van was the vinyl and plastic interior as well as the soft, squishy seats.
"Anything you think we can scavenge from that mess?" she asked, pointing at the heap of junk that remained.

Toby glanced at what remained of the van. “No, I wouldn’t even go near that mess. I mean, if you think of something important that’s in there, maybe, but I wouldn’t risk it,” he said distractedly. “You know, if I’ve lived through nineteen years of major injuries, I’m going to be really mad if I die because of something stupid, like tetanus.” He said, looking around like he lost something.

"19 years of major... what?" Indigo asked. "I don't really think tetanus is a current threat if the metal is all gone, but I agree with you. There's nothing worth the effort in that rubbish except..." she walked over to the junk and snatched a couple packets of freeze dried food, and a plastic first-aid kit.
"Now what were you saying about nineteen years of injuries?" Did he get parts of his legs cut off and they had to reattach his feet? Was there anything that vastly affected his height? I could see that?

“Injuries? That’s what I said, right?” Toby asked, looking confused. “Well, yeah, but there’s a lot of rust everywhere. And maybe I’m just hallucinating, but I feel like my ears are full of rust. Besides, tetanus isn’t just from metal. It’s a type of bacteria that people can get from many things, like dog bites, mud in a cut, you know, stuff like that.” He raised an eyebrow as she grabbed the stuff. “Freeze-dried food and a first aid kit? That’s an interesting combination.” Toby said. “Oh, about the injuries. What about it?”

”How did you come by them?” Indigo asked. Was he born with brittle bones?
