(eat!)

(stink eye at gerbil)

Starving, Silver looked on the meal with anticipation, having not eaten since the night before. This "fish" did not look like the round, hard food Silver knew she was supposed to eat. The smell alone was enough to turn her stomach, but it was the sightless, fixed eyes, staring up at her with a blank expression that made her appetite die. The idea of eating something that would watch her the whole time was not appealing to her. She shuddered.

remove a piece an give it to silver

how about you just tear and run like rosebud did

"I wouldn't want to be rude," she smiled, though at the same time trying not to breath in the pungent odor that was foreign to her. "Thank you!" Picking the piece up clumsily in her beak, she walked a few footfalls away, hoping the smell might flit away. Turning her head from one side to the other, she surveyed the grizzly piece of dead animal before her. Stomach wavering her decision, Silver took a tentative bite of the fish, tearing it away from the rest with difficulty. She had never tasted anything like it in her whole life. It had . . . she didn't know the right word. It had a stronger flavor than the bland pellets she had eaten for so long. It was . . . there really was no other word for it . . . delicious!

"Middy, could you teach me to catch . . . fish?" asked Silver nervously. "It tastes so good, and I know that I can't eat pellets anymore. I haven't seen a single food trough since I came into this forest, and I think I need to find my own food."
