Black Mark growled back, louder and lower.

"Oh, I'm sorry. Blackie gets like this around strangers. Black Mark, settle." She said and he stopped, but glared at Legossi. "So, are you going to race? I really wish my dad would just let everyone be." She said.

Legossi flew forward, but Rebecca held her back. "Careful, girl." She whispered to her dragon. Looking back at Vera, she chose her words carefully to avoid treason. "Yes, we will race."

"I just wish you could say you won't because that means you'd have a choice." Vera said sadly. "But at least your dragon is tame so you're safe." She said nicely. "I should get back to my house, I want to sign up for races tomorrow." She said happily and Black Mark flew off. Vera waved goodbye.

Rebecca watched Vera and Blackie fly away. "Good luck!" She yelled after them, not really meaning it. Legossi turned her long neck to look at her rider. "I don't trust them, either." Rebecca whispered to the dragon. "It seems that the only thing in the world I can trust is you."
