Near the far edge of the territory Hawk could smell the humans and dogs, she looked back at Crow who had dropped the meat at the scent.

Falcon twisted this way and that, her nostrils filled with the filthy scent of twolegs and their pets. Blood roared in her ears and her vision was partly blocked by the blood and fur flying from the tips of her claws. Dogs and humans fell to the ground under her massive paws, their eyes staring sightlessly at the sky.

Dove breathed deeply and looked away from the battle, making sure her pups were safe. That at least Squirrel was. He wasn't, instead clinging for his life (and possibly his death) to a human's leg. In one burst Dove grabbed him by his scruff and dumped him inside the nursery. "Stay here, Squirrel," she told him firmly. Where were those other two pups... Bee and Gerbil? They must be protected. Dove went off at a gallop to find them. Seeing Bee, she dashed in front of him and shouted, "What are you doing? Get back to the nursery! Where's Gerbil?"

Falcon stopped suddenly, all around her lay the bodies of the dead and the wounded. She was breathing heavily from fighting straight for days and her coat was stained red with blood

Hawk burst into camp, the smell and the sight of the bodies engulfing her.

Falcon curled her lips back and snarled, then realized it was Hawk and relaxed

Hawk drew back for a second then looked around at the carnage....
