The boy from the auctions, still sitting on the shore, jerked his head up as he saw a blur darting away into the ocean. Rubbing his eyes and blinking, it was gone. Did he really just see...? No, he told himself sternly, shaking his head. But as he stood, he wondered what would happen if he told his family that he had seen a dolphin with wings.
Morewyn hid underneath a rock ledge, cursing to herself. "How could I nearly let a two-leg see me?" she muttered. She had fallen asleep last night as she listened to the ponies getting corraled back to the island. It was amazing that the human hadn't snuck up her as she slept. True, he was only a young boy; but these days it seemed that the young ones were the worst. Now she had to be careful about swimming near this island. She shuddered as she imagined the things two-legs might do to her, or any of the band, if they were caught. As she turned to return to the band, she looked up and saw that the boy was peering into the water. Guess I'll just have to go deeper, she thought, turning and swimming downwards into the dark of the ocean.
