I kind of like having a nice system where everything works well together. I raise meal worms, composting worms, have a garden and of course my chickens. So it goes in a huge circle my hens eat the meal worms, red wigglers, and fruit/vegs from my garden then their egg shells go into my worm composter to turn into fertilizer for the garden. I feed my mealies a little egg yolk every once in a while.

do not underestimate predators. a feral cat managed to climb the oak in my yard and get inside my grow out coop, it made off with three chicks and four more were trampled by the others.

A lonely, singular chick benefits from some type of noise, at all times. When your gone I found that nursery rhymes work well (LOL), in preventing stress. Other calm songs with human speech in them worked well too. [IMG]

I know it may seem silly, but for making the chick happier and preventing stress-related illnesses, it's totally worth it! [IMG]

thanks, it could have been much worse though, my dad (thank God he lives nextdoor) ran over and fixed the issue and also gave his vote of either feral cat or raccoon. But I know there are two feral cats running around the area. Never imagined they could climb the tree and then smash themselves through the ventilation space (maybe 6 inches in height). Still horrible for my little guy. Lost a Buff Orpington, booted bantam hen, and some red sex links
